Just finished the album, man, to me it’s tight. It sounds very futuristic. The thing I can appreciate about it is that it’s an album, a coherent effort. It’s not the type of album you can pick a song off of and just let it go… he’s trying to make a larger point about what he thinks rap music should be. He brags a lot in this, you can tell the criticism is getting to him, he doesn’t really sound confident. The production to me is unbelievable, I haven’t heard something so sonically different than the current landscape like this from a major label artist since Common and Electric Circus? maybe? I don’t know if I’ve heard it done so well since Outkast’s run. The value he puts on authenticity sort of limits his subject matter, but it’s probably for the better, because it’s more grown up. To me, this is the album he was trying to put together for Kingdom Come, but it is so much nicer, a little more edgier, way more focused. The tracks just flow… it’s nice, on first listen it doesn’t hit as hard as the Black Album or American Gangster, but it’s close.

from first listen through I gotta say this cd kind of reminds me of graduation, kinda futuristic but soulful at the same time, but it def has some classic material on it, and I dunno what everyone is talking about that reminder track is haaaard

I fear that Jay-Z is going firmly doing this route, to me he is more Hoffa and Hova.

Peopel kiss your but long enough you start to turn your back on folk so they can do it easier… Every DJ in the country calls him Hova… We’re cheered Takeover with its “Me—God MC, Jay Hova” line as pure dopeness (most did anyway).
And granted, MIMS didn’t have the songs to sustain his career but no one stood up and said “No MIMS, Music is not a savior. Music isn’t inherently holy. Hiphop is not Christ.”
Nah we just let him claim Music as a savior until he ran out of hits.
As for the KRS thing… You had to see this coming. KRS believes in hiphop more so than any artist I’ve ever seen. He lives for it.

@Canseco, Jay-Z is walking a tightrope here, his ascention over the years has been awe inspiring indeed, but one false move here and he slips.
You are right about that line from The Takeover, but the gentleman needs to take a step back and have a moment of clarity.
When a person’s mind becomes clouded with a god complex that is when it gets messy. This t-shirt isn’t doing him any favours either, it’s kind of tacky, whether it’s a bold statement on his part or made to offend, only he can say for sure.
Rakim will be stepping up to the plate soon with his own rendition of the god complex, but men who declare themselves god or allow themselves to be declared god by others, pay a heavy penalty in the end. Neither party has authority over me, they are both flesh and blood, in the end they will age and perish like all mortal human beings.
The KRS One thing is tricky, he is without a doubt one of my fave emcees, and yes it definitely was coming, but it’s kind of creepy, he’s got the whole proclamation of declaration type charter, plus the temple of hip hop and now a ‘holy book’ of his own. The man has contradicted himself so many times over the years, makes you wonder what is his true agenda.

This Jay-Z t-shirt here, it’s like it’s not entertainment anymore, comes across as if he is reaching out into some type of religous sphere or something.
