Bun B & Royce Da 5′9″ - “Hood Love”
AUDIO By K1NG on August 15, 2009 at 9:41 amNow I’m not exactly sure how a track produced by DJ Premier featuring two of the top 5 rappers alive was given to DJ Smallz & DJ Neptunes’ for their latest mixtape Southern Smoke TV 4. However, I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t happy that it was.
Over a smoothly produced gem of a Premier track containing his signature boom-bap drum pattern and an array of melodies in the form of piano, string and bass chops, the Detroit native Royce Da 5’9” and Port Arthur’s own Bun B trade verses lamenting the feeling they receive when walking through the hood in their respective cities. The product is more than satisfying and begs the question why the two have never worked together before. At the same time, it ignites the desire from this particular writer to hear more from the duo in the future.

This song is crazy. Both Royce & Bun do that shit they do best & the Preemo beat? Best track I’ve heard from dude in a minute. Cats were whisperin like he’d fallen off. Gives me hope dude is more lazy then anything else.
And Royce has consistently impressed me over the last year. Marshall might need to give him a call, seeing as how the Shady roster has thinned out over the last couple years. Royce is peaking right now. Put dude with the right features & the right production (Slaughterhouse on a Dre track? Em & Slaughterhose on a Preemo joint? Insanity!). I know I’m playing blogger A&R but Royce is prolly in the best “rap shape” of his career & he should be capitalizing.
Slaughterhouse > Slaughterhose
The Slaughterhose is what I give the ladies lol.
this good… too bad there’s no cdq
Amp - Didn’t Premo do a bulk if not all the prod on Blaq Poet’s album or am I confused?
^ He did… that album had dope production, but I’m not a huge fan of Blaq’s. Something about his delivery that I’m not a fan of.
This song is dope. Is Royce still having his album executive produced by Primo? That joint is supposed to drop Nevuary 17, 200Never right?
man, perfect track to ride to on my birthday. thanks
Dope. CDQ has got to be out there somewhere. Thanks and GOD BLESS
@ Gotty
Yeah, he did the bulk of the Blaq Poet album but the production was kinda lackluster IMO, considering Preemo’s pedigree. Or maybe I just wasn’t feeling Poet on some of the tracks. I understand showing the underground cats some love but Premier is at his best when paired with capable talent. And I’ve heard Red, Meth, Busta & Fat Joe say on Juan Epstien that Preemo be slacking with his output.
Uhh, Royce said that Primeo was going to produce his debut album back in the bar exam days….I hope that promise is still in consideration, I still sneak bar exam 1 onto my pod and let that shit rock out, I also love listening to ‘Rock City’ now that shit was a damn near classic Lp.
This has been on REPEAT for past 72 hours in my crib…
All 3 should do a LP together.
The world needs a CDQ of this. And by the world I mean me.
I agree with guy above….
and cosign everything TSSCREW posted minus Bun B being a top 5 anything out side of Houston….
