Tha Shiznit…

Remember how powerful this tandem used to be? Sure they link up every so often to submit a banger here and there but when we they were one another’s main source for heat, you knew the results were surefire. The first time the world bore witness to “Deep Cover,” they defined a rap subgenre. And they continued to do so well through the course of the decade.
From outta the crates, basements or ashtrays, this unearthed gem has made its way to World Wide Web courtesy of DJ Tres. The quality may be the remnants of cassette decks and duct tape but a track that was among the genesis of one of the most formidable staples in musical history is priceless nonetheless.

damn a nigga need to get his hands on old issues of Source circa 92,93 good issues and articles that got lost/shredded. But yea these two use to be fiece. Hearin “Imagine” was amazing after such a long ass time wit out them on a track.
Damn…this is a gem. Not sure where you found this, but don’t ask, don’t tell is how I’ll treat it.
At Rock The Bells, the DJ would spin in between sets.
My ears would perk up & get happy when the DJ played some shit like this, from Death Row’s heyday, & some MJ.
A bygone era, when perfectionists would take the time to craft some quality product.
gosh, I sound like a broken record…I know I’ve said the above countless times.
this song is highly sought after in cd quality…ive had this for years.
this is supposed to be one of the bonus tracks on the chronic relit album thats supposed to come out.
Dope.
Wasn’t this beat later used by Warren G?
^ I couldn’t place my finger on where else I heard the beat/sample…you jut might be right.
yes thats it.
runnin with no breaks or some shit.
its been a min. i used to fuck with the wc shit heavy.
Warren G and the Cella Dwellas used the same sample, so I don’t think clearance money was the issue, but in many cases the sample holders reserve the right to deny clearance for whatever reason. Or they might not clear samples unless you remove he foul language, even in album versions.
If you copped the first pressing of Doggystyle, “Tha Next Episode” and “G’s Up, Ho’s Down” are listed on the back cover after “Pump Pump,” but didn’t make it to the actual album.
^ Good call Petey! Track 12: “Runnin’ Wit No Breaks” featuring Jah Skills, Bo Roc, G Child and The Twinz…it’s the last song on Warren G’s debut album: “Regulate…G Funk Era”
Peace to Warren G not paying for Tha Twinz to get they hair braided on The Show.
Tres FTW with the rap trivia knowledge! There’s so many good take aways when you fux with TSS, lol

I don’t care, I’ll never get enough of the 90-era
I like the way Nick Wiz flipped it for the Cella Dwellas better

Went to Hardfest on Halloween, music festival filled with electro and what not. One act finished right when i started rollin, dj came on in between the set and threw on “murder was the case”. Man… that was the illest shit ever. Being outdoors with all the crazy lights and it being halloween? It was the perfect setting for such a crazy dark track. I’ll never forget that moment.
it wasnt the twinz that couldnt get the braids done it was the five footahz…the chicks that did supasoul sis.
the twinz were two dudes in warren gs camp that actually dropped a dope ass album on def jam in 95 called conversation.
@ tres i bought doggystyle a week before the release date from a moms and pops record store that I later went on to work for…anyways.
my copy of doggystyle had gz up hoes down and pump pump included on it
i think it was excluded from the second print and up.
I don’t think “G’z Up, Hoes Down” was ever on the CD, just the tape but a Doggystyle without “Pump Pump” is useless to me.
it was on the first pressing only.
something about the sample clearance…
^Agreed. Just pulled my 1st pressing CD off the shelf and it has G’z Up followed by the Next Episode.
After the 1st pressing it was removed. I remember going to Tower Records a few years after Doggystyle dropped and noticing it had been removed from the album.
