The fallout continues: Comedian Bill Cosby has weighed in on the remarks made by Barack Obama at the conclusion of last night’s televised presser from the White House.
“I’ve heard about five different reports [on the details of the arrest]. If I’m the president of the United States, I don’t care how much pressure people want to put on it about race, I’m keeping my mouth shut,” said Cosby in an interview on Boston’s WZLX.

President Obama said that the police acted “stupidly” and I can’t think of a better phrase to describe their actions. Money was in *his house* with ID and all that. I’d have more of a beef with the standard police procedure bs…I’m really not even sure what Cosby’s point is and although it’s been turned into one this is not purely a race issue, it’s a police got their feelings hurt so you get a disturbing the peace.
I side with Gates based off of what I know about him and my experiences with police, but to me, Cos has a point. All the facts aren’t out, and as Prez he shouldn’t make specific assumptions… It’s a bad look.
Especially when (as far as I can recall) Obama was MUTE when the Sean Bell ish (and others) was going down. These were more blatant issues. He spoke on THIS incident b/c he has Gates on speed dial in his Blackberry.
I remember Boston Mayor Ray Flynn essentially throwing my hood under the bus during the Charles Stuart case (google it), and being face down once in the name of a “neighborhood search warrant”, only to find out he had his facts fcuked up.

But what is there to assume? The cops ran up on a dude trying to get into his own crib. Maybe the Prez needs to hold up on making uninformed statements, but c’mon. This is a case of profiling & stupidity on the part of the police. As usual. I’m just happy to see the HNIC saying something.
Not much, Amp, and personally I think po-po could’ve (and should’ve) just walked away, and left Gates ranting and raving on the porch….
My point is, WHO KNOWS what was really said inside the house that afternoon.
I don’t “think” Gates would play the race card based upon what I “know about him”, but this could just as easily be some EGO sh*t b/w two men and not racial at all.
Who really knows.

I don’t believe it’s a matter of facts. I don’t know what could come out that would change my opinion and to me it is a calculated move by Obama to shift his public image…rather take the “flak” for having said than take it for having not said. Better than I can articulate here:

President Obama should of waited till all the facts in the case comes to light. He has to realize that he is damn if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He might as well speak knowing all the facts.
