It may sound strange to say, but if someone says their releasing a free album online it’s a pretty good chance the final product will be dope.  Mixtapes by nature, are hit or miss depending on the artist’s level of involvement and how many hands are in the kitchen.  But if they specifically call it an album… then my interest is immediately piqued.  The Kid Daytona’s Come Fly With Me was no exception.

Dude must have spent a good deal of time around JFK or LaGuardia as a child, because like a lot of the current crop of newcomers his head is permanently affixed to the sky.  As much as he talks about how fly he and his life is, you’d think he was from Harlem but the Bronx native is definitely fly on the mic.  Witty punchlines and metaphors abound whenever he opens his mouth.

But what caught my ears were the second to last track, “From Now Til Then.”  6th Sense and Frequency provide him with a stirring backdrop of pianos runs and hand claps.  Throw in the continuous oohs and aahs on top of that and it’s wrap.  Daytona leaves the fly guy persona outside the booth for a few minutes and shows off another side of who  he is.

The results?  Fly nonetheless.
