With only the second entry in this iPod Shuffle thing (did you see the first?), I don’t want to spoil you. I have no intentions of writing a piece to accompany every song that we post with this. Actually, the not writing aspect was the whole draw for me. Give you a dope song & K.I.M.

With this Brad Jordan joint, it’s different. I was recently involved in a piece (coming soon) about what I liked most about Common & one quality was his growth over the course of his albums. Bar none, Scarface is the one rapper whose maturity within his content has progressed the most over the years. Growing up on & being 100% familiar with the Geto Boys, Scarface was the psycho one. Sure Bill & Willie Dee had the flair for the dramatic, slapping a baldheaded hoe & Bill’s rhymes (granted post-Everlcear, eye-shooting incident Bill’s stories became more believable). But given Face’s public history of “visiting” mental institutions, you could sense he spoke with conviction & experience.

Then Brad got a grip & became more self-conscious & socially aware without preaching. He passed on street corner wisdom. Shared his thoughts on who his Maker & Higher Power was to him. And he made songs like “Smartz.”
