I caught up with some friends and we rapped on music for a bit. Somehow the chat switched gears and we ended up talking about The Lox. Then the “Who’s better?” question came up and the room was quite divided.
In one corner stood Jadakiss, the de facto leader and most popular member of the crew. He has the most memorable singles, well known punchlines and strangest, yet quite distinctive, call sign when he drops a verse. For the most part, his albums have been all over the place, as last evidenced on The Last Kiss. Still you must be doing something right when your biggest hit spawned a merchandise stint and ruffled O’Reilly’s feathers.
Styles P repped the opposite corner with bars that constantly test the rest of the group. His debut, A Gangster and A Gentleman, arguably stands as the best solo effort from the collective although he’s yet to replicate the same success as his first effort. But songs like “My Life,” “I’m Black” and “Blow Ya Mind,” got their radio spins by catering to vastly different crowds. With that said, he’s still sharp and improved since he first came in the game.
Meanwhile, Sheek Louch didn’t get much love in the convo, effectively left ringside somewhere & third by default. In all seriousness, Sheek is far from a bad rapper. At times, his bars are usually on par if not better than his Lox brethren. Sure, solo success has eluded him outside of “Kiss Your Ass Goodbye,” yet that doesn’t stop him from staying hungry. I always feel like he writes with a chip on his shoulder. So if anything he’s always a contender.
So who’s the best out of The Lox? To me, Jada wins on even days and Styles is the champ on odds. Sheek’s alright but it’s a two man race as far as I’m concerned. As a self-diagnosed rap geek, I’m eager to see where popular opinion among the extended TSS Crew stands.

fuck is sheek doin, wearin a damn Ed Hardy shirt??? smdh…
and for the record, Jada all day…
Ed Hardy and Henleys (Shudders)
Styles P, all day, everyday.
Great topic…
I think you forgot the biggest point to mention in this situation though: “There’s no ‘I’ in team”.
These dudes are just a little above average when you consider them as solo artists, but as a group, they can argueably be the best lyrical trio in hip-hop history.
On the real, they are just one more group effort away from becoming the second-best rap group of all time, just edging out The Fugees, and falling waaaayyyy behind OutKast (definitely because of consistency). They make each other better, and without each other, they will continue to make luke-warm albums.
I like Styles P but as an overall rapper (wordplay, flow, discography, success/appeal) I have to go with Jada.
I said it once, and I’ll probably say it forever… We Are The Streets is the best thing to ever come from any of these guys.
Sheek. Cocky he knows he aint the baddest but will still smack the shit outta you’re fave rapper. The gunit beef made him an animal.
“Two heads is better than one — it’s 3 in the Lox…” — Styles P. from “Recognize.”
That being said, Jada has the most skill but Styles has had the best execution so Paneiro it is.
I am going to have to go with Styles P; but it is really close.
Stlyes for me. Jada gets kinda lazy w/it sometimes.
I agree, this is a tough one, fairly even. But personally, I’ll take Styles P. I just like his voice, flow, and style a little more than Jada’s. But Kiss is right on his heels.
Gangsta and a Gentleman came out while I was in h.s. and we used to bump that shit all the time on smoke rides @ lunch; so the Ghost gets my vote.
Like you said man, it’s really just a two headed race. Sheek is cool, but you’d be hard pressed to find someone to say he’s better than Styles AND Kiss.
Between Jada and Styles is almost impossible for me to decide. Flow wise, I’ll side with Jada. Content wise, it’s S.P.
But if I had to pick one, I’m going with Kiss just based on the fact I enjoy his music SLIGHTLY more. It pained me to have to come to a decision though. Thanks a lot.
Styles P all day long.
I’m happy to listen to all three and check for their music though.
i gotta go wit styles, with no offense with jada because i rocked “kiss of death” hard. it seemed like i had been feeling styles from the beginning and he was the one that expanded his palette as an artist more so than jada in my opinion. but hey im just saying that as a fan. sheek is no where near garbage its just i can’t feel his lyrics as hard.
Jada and Styles P. for me… as evidenced on We Gon’ Make it and Fab’s Keepin’ It Gangsta Remix
YO TSS,
NEED HELP! lookin for yak’s instrumetnal for “method to madness” for a skate vid we’re makin……….need it in the next 12 hours..i’ll be on the look out, let me know if ya’ll see it..thanks.
yak ballz that is..
At some point in time they’ve all been the best imo.
But I’ll have to give it to Styles for overall consistency.
“hold up bitch, give my man head, and he gon tell me if u worth puttin in the bed” – sheek
They all nice. its a toss up. While jada has achieved more commercial success, sheek and styles both hold they own on their individual efforts on mixtapes or on solo efforts. I fucks wit lox tho
i wanna say Styles but really i gotta give it to Jada. pause.
Jeezy vs Jadakiss mix with DJ Reeg coming soon
btw $1 million to the man who can link me to the freestyle Sheek said that line above… its a clue tape but I lost it when my hd crashed last summer.

Jada gets a thumbs up for the verse he did right there.
@sherm
Yezzir, Sheek took the L rockin’ that Ed Hardy shirt haha.
Anyway like I said, Jada and Styles are pretty much neck and neck in my book. I used to like Jada more when the Lox first dropped. Then Gangsta and a Gentleman came out and changed the power rankings in Styles’s favor. They’ve been fighting for first place ever since in my opinion.
Styles all day..
MZ you are right I remember when the LOX 1st came out; everyone was saying Sheek was the best. I guess that shows the strength of the group. Each member can hold their own.
I mean SP is nice don’t get me wrong, but it’s Al-Qaeda Jada all day….NEVER heard a weak verse from him ever…
“I’m always that / I’m always this / but the flow stay nasty like hallway piss…”
Styles P – “Go ‘Head”
I was a big Jada fan, but when I heard that line, the Ghost took the cake (II). Pinero it is.
“Jadakiss, the de facto leader and most popular member of the crew. He has the most memorable singles, well known punchlines…”
pretty much says it all. Throw in the features and his ability to lace a summer R&B joint closes the case for me.
Jadakiss.
At some point in time, it was a plausible argument that Jadakiss had the best bars in the game. Styles and Sheek have never hit those heights…
Alright! So I’m not the only one who favors Styles P. I can’t deny, Jada was always considered the best because he had the sickest punchlines but Styles was always my favorite out of the three. His whole demeanor was cool and he had lyrics.
“Though she was proper, still had to drop her/ Sheek never liked her, had a dream that he shot her” Damn, Son!
Always felt sorry for Sheek though. He might not be the best of the three but the last thing you can say is he never put in effort. Dude always went hard. Sometimes all you have to do is play your position.

This is what made Sheek the “best” at that time:
1996 freestyle from DJ Clue’s “Show Me The Money Part 1″ mixtape…

^ BTW, if anyone has this series (Part 1 & Part 2) please drop. They are must haves as far as the freestyles are concerned. (Not the ones from the year 2000+).
Sheek’s albums are the most fun and entertaining to listen to.
Jada’s like the Method Man of the crew. The punchline factor makes him the most accesible.
Styles P is the Ghostface of the Lox though. The most staying power (ll). By that I mean, who would’ve predicted him as “best” from your initial thoughts of him. He is also the busiest of the crew. He’s an east coast Bun-B in that regard. What puts him over Jada w/me though is he is the most content-oriented of the crew.
You can’t effectively win an argument by saying Styles, Sheek or Jada is the best in the L.O.X. There is only one argument that can win hands down against all contention and the is the fourth and from all previous comments most forgotten member of the group. No, not J-Hood…Styles/Jada AKA Jada&Styles. When they rap together they are always better than apart. Not two seperate verses but line for line like on We Gone Make It and Noreaga’s Banned From TV. When they sit back to back and do their version of Run D.M.C. finishing each others thoughts and sentences, they create some of the best moments in hip-hop.
Sheek’s albums are the most fun and entertaining to listen to

Real talk, when “Walk with Me” dropped I played it everyday for months on end. Sheek is the hard-body, smack-the-shit-out-you, comical-yet-dead-serious thug. Jada is the smooth, stylish, yet rugged and raspy street nigga. Styles P is the brief yet deep, direct and poignant, jewel dropping gangster.
@ Thugger8: True that my ninja, a perfect example is that song “In & Out” by Sheek Louch featuring Styles P; the back & forth wordplay on that track is dope.
@Thugger8
Yup. Styles/Jada features are among the best in the game. I loved their verse on Banned from TV back in the day. I had to run it back just now thanks to your comment.
Styles P. He got classics.
Here’s a good question (maybe TSS should make this a part two version):
What’s your favorite verse from any three of these guys that isn’t their solo/group song?
Right off the top of my head I would say Sheek’s verse on “Niggaz Done Started Somethin” is FUCKING CLASSIC.
The Ghost. Jada’s the most polished, but he peaked circa 2001 and has been wildly inconsistent and too often flat-out uninteresting ever since. Styles is the grittiest, most versatile, most convincing, and most interesting of the crew, hands down. One of the most overachieving, underrated mcs out. If I made cd-length playlists of each of their greatest moments, Styles’ is the best.
Sheek has some great verses, but he’s just not in the same conversation. He might be fourth to J-Hood.
BTW, DH was joking about the Fugees being the second best group of all-time, right?
@ Barry Washington: Probably Jada in 24 Hours to Live (honorable mention to Sheek on Made Men’s “Tommy’s Theme” and Eve’s “Ryde or Die”)
Holiday for sure…. consistency.
Nice clothes.~!
Good to know!
And thousands of sincere and serious tall people I met on ___Tallloving C om___ are the most amazing people I ever met! they care nothing but real love and chemistry! that’s what we are looking for in today’s world!
I use to say Jada during the MPR era “All for the Love is a Classic”
Then Styles during Gangster and The Gentleman
But once The Champ is here came out I think Kiss grabbed the Top Spot.
IMO
1. Jada
2. Styles close, close 2nd
3. Sheek (I Think Sheek is dope but in this 3 man race he’ll always 3rd)
@ Douglas Howser
All 3 when in on this jawn but Sheek Mashed this
“See you in ya after life when
/You Come back as a pussy and I fuck you again”
We been waiting damn near ten years for a L.O.X album…..
When the group first came out I thought Jada was the best. As the years went by I felt Styles P more and more, and he has become my favorite member of the group. A lot of his tracks are about knocking a dude upside the head, but you can’t deny the lyrics. He’s a real dude and that comes across on his tracks. Whether it’s violence or some heartfelt shit, the content is consistently better than the other two Lox members. I can understand someone voting for Jada, but Sheek? That’s like saying Pras is better than L Boogie or something. Sheek ain’t the worst rapper out there, but c’mon, be serious.
SP Bitch!
Styles, Jada, Sheek. I’m a huge Sheek fan though.
hold up bitch give my man head, and he gon tell me if you worth puttin in the bed. – Sheek louch daddy! lol
sheek louch all day… i dont like the way styles rhymes and jada has the same flo on every track
sheek louch all day every day
