This should be interesting.
Weary of possible leaks, Jay-Z is rumored to be hand delivering The Blueprint 3 to Atlantic Records label brass in London upon completion. If he does indeed do this, it will be a great case study in album leaks. I personally think that it won’t make a difference, because my belief is whole album leaks usually happen in the pressing stage when one missing album won’t make a difference. But as we’ve pointed out before Jay likes to set trends and this is no exception.
There a few ways this can play out though. First of all, we’ll get no substantial leaks outside of “D.O.A” and the second single. Then the album will leak around September 4th and release on the 11th. Second scenario is three or four additional songs will leak, Hov will blame Atlantic and vice versa for the leaked songs. Then, he’ll go back in the studio and come up with some “new” songs or push the release up to September 8th. In the end I don’t see much coming from this. It would be nice to get some insight on where leaks spring from. But if anyone knew, they wouldn’t be anymore. So deciphering where they come from is like debating whether the chicken or egg comes first.
On top of that, how come nobody noted that September 11th is on a Friday this year? That’s gonna make it pretty tough for him to go number one on the Billboard in three days. I know The Black Album released on a Friday, but that was Black Friday. Significance aside, the only place I see people rushing is to the liquor store. It’s also ironic that The Blueprint (along with Ghetto Fabolous) are the first two albums I got before they released and now Jay-Z’s trying to put an end to that as well.
Stay tuned for how this will play out.
Oh yeah, rumor has it a new single featuring Kanye & Rihanna will be releasing this Friday.

Shabooya! Roll Call!
if an album is supposed to come out on a certain day, why not just list the release date a couple weeks in advance and fool everybody.
^^^
And fool the people who are gonna buy it?
@TC good point. Hey I tried
leak or no leak if its a good album, its bound to sale . some worry for the multimillionaire thats the hardest nigga out there
Man…I still remember when my cousin brought a copy of The Blueprint down from Atlanta after it leaked. He had it on tape because the cd player in his car was broken. He was fast forwarding and rewinding back and forth trying to find “All I Need”. LOL. Good times.
It was a little weird going to Media Play after school on 9/11 copping the album after the attacks and everything. That joint was dead as hell. I went home and listened to it while I watched the news coverage on mute.
With that said, I love album leaks because I’m an impatient person but there’s nothing like that feeling you get listening to an album for the first time taking it out of the plastic.
over here in Italy it will be late either way, so I’ll bow out of this conversation
There are too many disgruntled people working in the industry to ever stop the leaks. As long as one engineer is called Doofy white boy by a MC’s weed holder; there will be leaks. As long as Admin Assistants have to hear damn Ma you got a FAT ASS by a MC and or his Weed Holder; There will be LEAKS!!!
lol
LMAO @ Biggga
I think the thrill of being the one who leaks the album goes up exponentially with the amount of security measures enacted to stop the leak. Every time the labels and artists announce a new approach, the digital pirates immediately seem to have a counter. It’s a game, and for the pirates (those who derive joy from beating the labels), they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by sticking it to the man.
Remember when Sony spent all that money encoding their CD’s with copy protection technology, and the pirates leaped the hurdle simply by scribbling around the edge of the CD with a magic marker? Its a futile fight- no matter what the labels do, its like putting a band-aid over the bloody stump of a torn-off arm… while in deep water… surrounded by sharks.
The labels need to accept the inevitable.
Off Topic:
Just finished reading about the Chinese Kid that drank gasoline to be more like a Transformer. Holy Crap!! 1st we get a Black Man in Office, now we meet the 1st Dumb Chinese person. Hell has froze over Burrr!!
im gonna bootleg the shit out of this album.
Ironically a film called “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt” starring Michael Douglas supposedly releases 9/11.
My brother got to be an extra in the film.
I’m glad I swiped a copy of Blueprint from work 9/10/01, I don’t think I would’ve been in the mood to listen that next day.
“The Jayhova Witnesses is tryin’ to save a aggin tune, and these freaks in the game tryin’ to sell a aggin tone…”
Oh yeah, rumor has it a new single featuring Kanye & Rihanna will be releasing this Friday.
====================================================
2nd single featuring Kanye & Rihanna >>>> 2nd single featuring Drake
It would be entirely too much, too soon.
Let us not forget Wolverine was leaked earlier this summer by somebody on the ‘inside’ but alas despite the leak the movie was a pretty sizeable box office hit.
The same principle will apply with The Blueprint 3, whether or not it will be a textbook example in where do leaks sprout from and how can they be stopped, only time will tell.
However, just like Wolverine, it is a major popular culture event, yes it might leak, but it will still be a blockbuster event nonetheless.
Arigato!
Don’t matter if he is releasing it on Friday. This is Jay-Z we are talking about here. Dude could drop it 11.59pm on Sunday and shit would still top the charts.
