Words By Prop Jay
The homie J.Tinsley dropped off some heat the other night and then this came along a bit after. It’s the subtle nuances that make the “Lights Please” CDQ much better than the original found on The Warm Up and therefore it’s worth passing along. The drums are a bit crisper; his vocals have been re-recorded and maybe even a few changes in lyrics just to tighten things up.
None the less, the un-mastered version was one of many tracks from his sophomore tape that stayed on rotation the past few weeks. Now that the mastered copy dropped, it will probably stick around for a few more, especially since I’m a sucker for quality.
What we do know is that J.Cole seems to be the real deal and, as time passes, this cat keeps coming out on top against a slew of notable rookies. A few more efforts of the same quality and those in Hip-Hop world not named Jermaine Cole are going to have a real problem on their hands.

Looking for…
Black Rob – B.L.A.C.K. (Original version)
Black Rob – Time To Ride or DJ Kay Slay – Let The Games Begin
I keep saying Prop…if this guy is marketed correctly, he could be a MAJOR star. For some reason, I’d love to see Cole do a track with Jazmine Sullivan or Marsha Ambrosius.
As far being a “sucker for quality”…add me to that list.
Definitely, all the work he has done that resembles anything close to a “mainstream” sound has had him laying down the vocals, which still keeps it “street”….. somewhat.
If he had any one of those R&B soul chicks, they could lay it down and he could be tested for star power.
Its so funny cause I was loving last years rookies with currensy, wale, cudi, et al. J.Cole came out of nowhere and climbed to the top 2 by the 3rd track I heard from the warm up.
Lol, man for some reason I could never count Curren$y as a “rookie.” Yet and still, dude is still dope. I do have to say I think 09′s rookie class has the biggest potential to become stars for a long time.
Cole, Drake and Nipsey Hussle could all be household mainstays a few years down the road, at least in my eyes.
Nice track.
im late but i love this shit too.
jamz of the month right here
lbut i think i like the one of the warm up more.
if Drake can blow up, then this guy should as well.
I like this song
Not fully sold but I’m impressed. I might download Come Up to see what else I’ve been missing. He can make it though.
dope song. good rapper this guy
Fuck what you heard! This joint is hard. A lot better than the original indeed. As if the original needed to be improved.
