Last weekend, I was blessed with the good fortune to meet J. Cole after his performance at the Sneaker Pimps Tour stop in D.C. The humble graduate of St. John’s University and I briefly spoke about the American Dreamin’ tape we released two weeks prior to his 40,000 download plus Roc Nation debut. On our tape, most of the tracks could be found on his first release, The Come Up. However, a handful were not found on either project.

“In The Morning” finds Cole addressing the topic of women, a subject he often address with conviction and passion. Coincidentally, this ranks as one of his more underrated subjects due to his impressive knack for introspective records. He never manages to resonate as too corny or desperate for attention from the opposite sex when he mentions them in his rhymes. Rather, his approach always tends address the subject on with a smooth laid-back flow sounding more conversational than musical. In J. Cole, Hov has his most talented understudy since Kanye. I just pray he doesn’t get the Peedi Crakk treatment.

While not touted as an “exclusive,” this is the no DJ version for those wanting to add it to their collection.
