Words By Jason Hortillas
HBD to Neil!
The speculation stems from Neil’s mailing list email. He was so nonchalant about talking about his possible project with Drake, forgetting his name while mentioning it.
Well, here it from his words…
“… So I’ve actually been working on my friends wedding cd for like the past month, and I added this peace to his wedding cd, that I had Planned to use for this project involving myself and this artist named… I think… yeah his name is Drake. The world has been a buzz lately on his single Best I ever had….
Now I don’t know if this project will ever come to fruition, BUT here now is a quick 5 minute snippet of what it may have sounded like….”

Thoughts?

I’ve been a dedicated fan of Neil’s mixtapes forever, and, to my knowledge, hasn’t done a mix centered around just one artist.
up until now.
Neil makes CLASSICS…Drake is more along the lines of a Gangsta Grillz or some shit like that. (Fuck it, I love giving back-handed compliments, if you consider that to be one.)
I’m not sure if Drake is even worthy of Neil’s Midas touch, but Neil makes ANYTHING sound good, lol
I’m interested to see how this project turns out.
I think Neil is moving w/the opps presented to him. I don’t know shit about the actual making of a beat. But if Nas said, “you wanna make a track for my album?” I’d be @ home learning thru some Hip-Hop Rosetta Stone.
Plus, giving credit, I wondered similar thoughts when the whole touring w/Jay thing popped up. No changes. Same email, same cell, same dude that if you hit him w/a request, he’s right back w/an answer. Gotta respect that.
Neil’s definitely very down-to-earth. A very admirable trait. I can guarantee you other dudes would’ve been on some superstar shit after touring with Jay.
And the project with Drake is gonna prove to be mutually beneficial. No one’s buzz is bigger than Drake’s, & Neil doesn’t half-step, so this is a good look for both of them.
If I end up taking more of a liking to Drake’s music after, I’d be inclined to give most, if not all, the credit to Neil for making it palatable for me, lol
