Badvertising: You See It Images
AUDIO By Beware on July 3, 2009 at 9:15 amIf you attend enough local rap shows, you get accustomed to being bombarded by 5×7 promo flyers. They’re everywhere you look. Getting emotionlessly handed to you in person. Under your windshield wipers. At the gas station. The club. Everywhere. Pollution. No matter how many of these stupid things cross my path, though, the opportunist in me manages to read every one before tossing it in the garbage can. Usually they’re about club nights, or open mics. Clothes. Maybe an artist’s new release. Nothing too exciting.
Once in awhile, you do find a diamond in the rough like the one below. An otherwise ordinary advertisement that is so implausible you question it’s sincerity.

Apparently the marketing guy at You See It…Images, off 6 Mile in The D, was either A) trying to express an upsetting message about the city with the corrupt commission B) legitimately, and very blatantly, trying to capitalize off death C) Smoking a fat blunt and ‘designing that shit up tight’ or D) all of the above.
My guess is as good as yours. All I know is that I’ll be keeping the card for a laugh…and never doing business with them.

Before I even finished the write up, I saw the card.
The very first thing I thought was “why is Obituaries the LARGEST word up there?”
Like my grandfather always tells me, there’s money in death. The question is, is it your death or someone else’s?
