Until this post, I’ve generally shied away from doing apparel posts. It’s not that I don’t have a style, its more that I’m too cheap and perpetually broke to develop it fully. I select my clothes and accessories very meticulously, and living in New York has forced me to be even more choosy about the impulse purchases I make. But as soon as I saw a tent for Flud Watches at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, I immediately started justifying the expense by planning a list of things to fill my freshly emptied wallet (sadly, more money wasn’t really the most accessible choice).

I’d had my eye on the Tableturns watch series since I spotted it on a fan at SxSW (I really, really hate questioning another man on where he acquired a fashion item- it’s demoralizing- but the watch was too fresh, plus he wasn’t from any place close enough for us to meet again at a future function- with me subsequently being called out on my style-biting). The combination of not having to wait for an Internet order, my desire to look dapper enough backstage and perhaps the beer and burritos in my belly had me throwing my credit card on the counter as if I could stand to max out a few accounts.

Luckily, Flud watches are not only stylish, but pretty decently priced. I dropped $60 (discounted $10), for a good-looking, sturdy one that will hopefully pay off in countless compliments and exaggerated feelings of self-satisfaction. Maybe then I’ll have enough confidence to forget my financial woes and go shopping a bit more. I mean it worked for Kanye.
