“…Ain’t nothin’ nice, ‘Yo Pac, do something righteous with your life…’”

June 16th is bittersweet for me.

Twenty-five years ago it was the day I was born inside Southfield’s Providence Hospital. Exactly twelve years later, the man smiling above celebrated his final birthday. Being quite young, I only knew him posthumously. Oddly enough, the upheaval over his passing only helped me get acquainted faster. Now, having given more than half my life to fill in the blanks surrounding one of influential artists of any artistic genre, all that’s left to wonder is what could have been.

Today, instead of the typical “Hail Mary,” “Smile” or “Pour Out A Little Liquor,” let’s play a song that would’ve made Pac proud had he heard it today on what would have been his 38th birthday. Amidst all the paranoia raised on Me Against The World‘s “It Ain’t Easy,” and how much of it came true, Mr. Shakur’s righteousness is one the thing that has never be questioned.

Happy Birthday.
