The guys @ Gunaxin with the visual reminders of why The Wire was so crucial. During the original airing, the most violent clip to watch had to be when Chris beat down Michael’s perverted stepdad in Season 5 4. That joint was so brutal, I cringed a little then and dare not revisit it even through the portals of Youtubey.
As an aside, if you’re a reader, David Simon’s Homicide is worth the price of admission. Both it & The Corner will take you back to Sundays with the written word. Similar to the television series, the books are every bit as detailed in the presentation and plot. The majority of the characters are round, developed to the point that you feel as if you’ve met them and you find yourself rooting for those that you know are doomed from the start.

another quality post during a kobe dominated game.
i’ll take the scene in Season 1 where Omar, his “man-friend”, and No Heart Anthony run up in the spot an raid the stash house. Omar shooting out that kid’s leg, Poot puking, and Bodie buggin out. That episode sucked me into the series. The rest is history.

I thought No Heart Anthony was just a name they brought up? Omar’s brother right?
^^^
No Heart Anthony was his brother. That wasn’t him.
“During the original airing, the most violent clip to watch had to be when Chris beat down Michael’s perverted stepdad in Season 5.”
That was season 4 actually. Michael already had his own crib by season 5.
Bodie was a soldier till the end yo.
I need to watch every season of the The Wire. Somebody hook me up with some lainks.
I’m still haunted by D’Angelo getting strangled in the library.
The scene where Chris beats the shit outta Mikes stepdad gets my vote. That shit made me close my eyes a few times.

yup, brought up in season 1 when Bubbles is crackin on Kimma for not knowing the streets enough…Bubs asks McNulty if he knows of “No Heart Anthony” and “McNutty” gives the rundown on NHA being a Littles and knows the prison NHA is locked up in…it was one of the defining moments where you knew McNulty knew the streets and wasnt a complete self-indulgent ass.
great scene…David Simon (and Ed Burns) is great…The Corner, The Wire, & Generation Kill were all really good…Im really looking forward to his dipiction of John Wilkes Booth in Manhunt. Good lookin on the heads up about the book

Youre thinking John Bailey or “Bailey” as he was more often referred to as. He was there for that robbery scene and then the scene where him, Omar, & Brandon are talking on a stoop. Omar starts petting Brandon and Bailey gives a “you fags” look and chunks a duece…next thing you know, McNulty and Bunk start talking a “John Bailey” found leaded up with a bullet proof vest on and thats how they connect Omar to Bailey and the stick ups
(i just finished Season 1 last week…on my Season 2 binge now…every 3-4 months i feel the need to start at the beginning and watch it all the way through)
Season 2 was weak.
I hear you though about going back. i’m actually in the process of re-watching everything with the commentary on.
Season 2 was weak.
=====================
False statement. May be the most important season.
Ain’t nobody dropped those Wire links yet? Ya’ll Magic fans went to bed early?
The Wire (All Seasons): http://www.rapidfind.org/upload/showthread.php?t=162013&highlight=wire
Agree with TC. I skipped season 2 and have watched it all over again and it is up there with Season 1 and 4 in my opinion.
S2 is crucial. It just doesn’t appeal to those looking for the action of the streets. I thought it was an important chance to take & that they were successful w/it in the overall scheme of things.
The weakest season was the season at the Docks.
Corner is a fucking incredible piece of literary journalism… still lookin to get my hands on a copy of Homicide.
Yeah season 2 was the dock or am i trippin’?
season 2 was the docks and Avon’s time’s in jail. Dont know how you guys think it was weak, like TC said its one of the most important seasons…you get to see how far Stringer Bell is willing to go to keep his empire on its feet (taking out your best friend and business partner’s nephew without him knowing as “insurance”…damn) and it also shows the development of “The Greek” & Prop Joe which both become so important in season 4 & 5.
The Wire cant be taken individually from season to season…its best when taken as a whole and you dont look at it from a “streets only” perspective.
^so true.
Homicide: A Year in the Killing Streets > any book you ever read(- malcolm’s autibio)
One of the most chilling scenes for me was when Marlo shot that girl twice in the chest and in the mouth. Up until that point Marlo hadn’t really done any dirt on camera. The way he did that and just walked away showed how he def set the tone for his crews murderous ways.
