Georgia On My Mind…
GENERAL By David D. on June 22, 2009 at 12:10 pmSorry, people. But The Ecstatic didn’t do it for me. I haven’t found that much replay value in it. However, one track has managed to stay on my playlist: “Roses.” The sole reason lies in the sultry voice of one Georgia Anne Muldrow.
I don’t know anything about this woman and have never heard her before, but I want to hear more. Secret: I fall slightly in love with a woman who can sing. And, judging from Miss Georgia’s Myspace page, she has the potential to put my heart in a vice grip.
Her voice is at once regal and defiant. Sultry and unorthodox. And, she can actually spit. Peep “Roses Pt. 2” where she gives a stellar 16 that is almost unfair when accompanied by her singing.
Georgia, I have no clue from whence you came. But please, stay.

You’re crazy. The Ecstatic is on in my house on the daily. The Embassy, Quiet Dog Bite Hard, The Auditorium, Pistola, Revelations. Crazy.
history
It’s between Roses and Casa Bey for hottest song on The Ecstatic. The other songs are well-produced, but I confess that much of the album blends together for me. I like History and Auditorium, but that’s in part because Slick Rick and Kweli’s verses are more accessible and focused than Mos. Can’t front on Mos’ flow, of course, but he’s kinda Camp Lo-esque on this album: I’m not quite following the lyrics, but the flow sounds hot over the beat.
I’m definitely checking for Georgia Anne, though; agreed. She’s got a dope approach to harmonic structure that won’t earn her a lot of spins on Hot 97, but will definitely earn her a loyal indie fan base.
Georgia Anne is dope. Since I’m a Stones Throw stan I got hip to her a few years ago. Her debut album, Olesi: Fragments of an Earth was solid and she just dropped a mixtape called Ms. One where she does all the production with mostly features on every track. Let me see what I can dig up…

Secret: I fall slightly in love with a woman who can sing.

That explains the I <3 Susan Boyle tat on your arm. LOL!!!
Georgia Anne is super talented.
Roses is so beautiful. Sad and simultaneously triumphant.
Don’t know HOW cats are not feeling the whole album though. Mos put his foot in it, but…..to each their own.
LOLOL @ Biggga!
i agree with david…i didn’t like the ecstatic. but roses did stand out!
i liked georgia on erykah’s master teacher and j davey’s might as well
Most of Georgia’s music is in that “hard to find gotta special order or hit the net” category. She does have a nice body of works so far:
Georgia Anne Muldrow - WorthNothings EP
Georgia Anne Muldrow - Olesi Fragments Of An Earth
Pattie Blingh and the Akebulan Five - Sagala
G&D - SomeOthaShip Connect Game EP (Collab project with Dudley Perkins)
G&D - Message Uni Versa
Georgia Anne Muldrow - Presents Ms. One And The Gang
She has said before if people can’t find her music just contact her on myspace, and she might just give it to you.

Is there a reason people feel like they have to “apologize” for not vibing w/Mos album?
I think I mentioned before that I think it’s real loose but informed. Flowed well together IMO. Not a stellar offering but listenable & enjoyable for solo listening at least for me. And I can say that knowing I’m not a big Mos fan.
black on both sides>>>
the new danger>>>> (that song close he did on chappelle…yoga flame!!)
i think the beats are too soft, not gritty enough. mos needs that concrete to really slam it home.
@ comments #12 & #13: pause @ “real loose” & “too soft”
lol
would you mind sharing where i can get that mp3 player in the post?
LOL@ Teef
that is cause and effect at its finest:
Her cat was REAL LOOSE so I remained TOO SOFT. LOL!!!!
THX Heff: New fuel for the ipod.
Ain’t gonna lie I thought that was Macy Gray when I saw that pic.

I was surprised (especially after hearing the singles) but I enjoyed The Ecstatic, beats were good it had a nice flow…Most importantly I don’t expect Mos to “say much” unless he rapping with Kweli so I wasn’t disappointed.
Check this out. I never heard of Georgia until I saw this last year. Enjoy!!

Yeah she’s Dope
“Is there a reason people feel like they have to “apologize” for not vibing w/Mos album?”
Nah I think it’s more of an apology on behalf of Mos. I mean we all want Mos to shine. Blackstar was good, Black On Both Sides was good. Mos is a talented MC, a talented brother all around and the quintessential intelligent b-boy who can talk about what Gandhi meant to world peace but can also crack a bottle of Steel Reserve over your head if you step to him wrong. So when he doesn’t bring it on the music tip, we be like, “Damn…”
The problem is, his songwriting concepts were sooo ill circa B.O.B.S. that folks hold him to that standard. Yeah, he still has a dope flow, and he can still talk about how he stays rockin’, etc. But he doesn’t have lyrical epiphanies like he used to on “New World Water” (or “Respiration,” even earlier), for example. Here and there, sure, but his lyrics have become more free form, abstract, and harder to follow.
“Sorry, people. But The Ecstatic didn’t do it for me.”
You should retire now, after reading this post you penmanship has no legitimate cred. Bow out gracefully.
Can some post some georgia Shots????
