Crew Love: The Michael Jackson Edition
Everything Else By Gotty™ on June 26, 2009 at 12:22 pmOf course, there was plenty of material that we planned on posting on Thursday. But when the news & updates started coming in about Michael Jackson, the music stopped.
Of course, new tracks & videos didn’t literally cease hittin’ the net. It was just that, in a peculiar way, the only thing you could actually hear was the King of Pop’s music, be it audible or simply in your mind.
I told Adam last night, I like to think that my dad’s generation had James Brown to transcend all conceivable barriers through music & dance. Our generation had Michael Joseph Jackson.
He was a pop culture icon. At his peak, he was a true star whose name was recognizable even in parts of the globe where traditional media outlets were not. Influential & inspirational, he music will forever outlive him & remain as his legacy. What more can be said about the greatest singer, dancer & entertainer of our time?
Therefore, we take it to the music as the Crew shows their Love, The Michael Jackson Edition.
“Beat It”: The man’s musical influence has spanned over three generations and his music still holds value today. — K1NG
“Wanna Be Startin’ Something”: This song changed my life, as I learned to dance to it. It’s the high hats, horns and the classic chant, “Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa, Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa.” — Darius Sinclair™
“I Want You Back”: The emotion he was able to put into his vocals, the stage presence he had…even at 11 years old, MJ would blow some of these new jacks out of the water. — Amp
“I Can’t Help It”: Don’t front – you rocked the glove, the red jacket and busted out the moonwalk…we all grew up with The King, and I grew up to this Stevie Wonder-produced gem (later sampled for De La’s “Breakadawn”). — Jason Hortillas
Moonwalker, the movie: Dude turned to a Transformer at the end…and killed Joe Pesci and gave me more reason to want to be him. — David Dennis
“Leave Me Alone”: Goodbye MJ. You’re prolific and substantial contributions to American Music will sadly always be tainted by your lifelong experience as the American’s Public object of celebrity obsession and the fucked up things it can do to an individual. R.I.P. — Patrick M.
“Lady In My Life”: As one of the most sampled artists in Hip-Hop, behind the legendary James Brown, Michael Jackson’s impact has and will continue to be felt by all forms of music from Rock to Pop to Hip-Hop. R.I.P. — Landon A.
“Butterflies”: Despite anything you ever heard about the allegations, the court cases, the baffling subplots of his life, this man revolutionized music in a way that will never be duplicated. R.I.P. — Jesse H.
“PYT (Pretty Young Thing)”: The upbeat bass, synth and vocoder behind this track complimented Michael’s image as one of the most elligble bachelors of the 80’s; don’t front like you wouldn’t want to be Mike in ‘82. — S. Cadet
“The Way You Make Me Feel” — Despite the mixed views we had on his personal life, our feelings were unanimous when his music hit the speakers. And that’s what matters. — Beware
“Never Can Say Goodbye”: He did it all for us — the best, the worst, the good, the bad and the ugly — and to that end we should grateful and shame filled. — LC Weber
“Human Nature”: As the last song added to Thriller, “Human Nature” is melodic beauty in harmony with Quincy Jones on the production & Michael’s voice proving brooding yet gentle. — Gotty™
“Off The Wall”: While we checked our Twitters with the news on mute, my fiancée had this on repeat. It made her feel better. What else do I need to say? — Trackstar The DJ
“The Love You Save”: Picking your favorite Michael Jackson song is like picking your favorite child: You love them all equally and for different reasons. — MZ
“Man In The Mirror”: He’s finally found peace . R.I.P. to the Man in the Mirror. — Contra™

MJ King shots.
thx @ mr rat
Stack Bundles too
Rest In Peace
R.I.P MJ
Despite his nutiness; he is the World’s Greatest Performer. Already the mixtape circuit has been flooded with Tribute mixtapes; I just hope they let the Great DJ’s handle that.
I’ve been trying not to watch TV, but as I do, the more real this sh*t is becoming. Very, very sad…
MJ’s songs were a large part of the background music to my childhood.
Wow.
I remember being this sad when Marvin passed. Not cool at all.
Marvin, MJ, Stevie, (Robert Nesta) Bob…
Going back to an old, OLD post… put me on an island and I’d be straight if all I had was a food supply (coconut juice and lobster) and the catalog of these cats music playing from the radio…
I’m still stunned and I’m a grown-ass man
‘I can’t help it’ is bliss in musical form. thank you and rest in peace MJ.
I’m just shocked.
But the music won’t stop, not from my heart. I’ll always be playing or singing a MJ tune.
“Say Say Say”: JUST L.I.S.T.E.N !!! — Greumsy Greums
ps: The Girl Is Mine ! Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
So I guess Mike will be executive producing the next Charles Hamilton album now.
Son, kindly do not invoke the thought of Stevie passing….can’t quite cope with that possibility right now.
==========================================================
Co-sign. If Stevie died that would fuck me up worse than MJ’s death already has. If Stevie dies, I’m done.
the same thang about stevie (even if he’s older)
i thought, when stevie will die, how will be the deluge ?
Beautiful post TSS.
I Can’t Help It is def’ one of my all-time favourite songs period (which to be honest there are quite a few)…and that Butterflies joint…his voice man, it’s his voice..that emotion..raw..one of those voices that took you there with certain songs and brought a tear to your eye…
I think it’s amazing that from grandparents to the babies..he transcended every freakin’ generation…he is a true pioneer…
Oh, and what dude done with vocal arrangements…
Thanks for the memories Mr Jackson
R.I.P
Thank you TSS as always.
RIP MJ
Can we please not speak of Stevie in that way…please?…it’s too much right now…..

Can I get a moment of silence.. .
It’s crazy and beautiful how Mike’s music has transcended from generation to generation, all walks of life, countries, adults, children and all genres of music. He may have passed physically but his legacy and music will live for an eternity. Thriller is still the #1 album sold of all time and I am sure that number has spiked in his passing and most likely will never be passed in our life time. Whatever you do this weekend reach out to ALL of your loved one’s, let them know how much you love them and don’t take your days on this planet for granted!
What is the definition of talent, artist, legend, triumph & american icon?
Answer: Michael Jackson.. ! Rest In Peace.. .
** Turn Down “Human Nature” **
I love(d) Michael’s music…Stevie Wonder is too BUT you have to realize that the music does not make them invincible. They are human just like us… breathe, eat, sleep and shit just like us…
Separate the man from his music…Martin Luther King was not a saint either BUT they changed the world through great feats and for that i respect them no matter what shortcoming they may have had…
** Turn “Human Nature” Back Up **
Anotha Time,
MaLLY
MZ- perfectly said; perfect

Hi, I’m the guy who made the sample map. When I did it a few months ago I had no idea it was going to turn into a memorial tribute, but now I can’t think of a better way to show my respect to his legacy. Thanks for passing it on.
weren’t there 50 responses to this post earlier? is there a Bermuda Triangle up in this piece? lol
That Grammy performance will fuck you up it’s so good.

Or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJpLGQpngDI
that track had fire, passion, & toughness something mike didn’t show much of, but if he did niggaz would not of tired to get into his personal life as much.
greums – you need to be shot for putting stack bundles and michael jackson in the same sentence. rip stack bundles….but come on man.
a life is a life ! man
only music is bigger than life !! ONLY MUSIC !!!
My Michael Jackson MEMORY…the most exciting time of my childhood:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ap-pZkeQ88
I am still in a STATE OF SHOCK AS is the rest of the world, THE KING IS DEAD< not just king of POP< but entertainment! Though his lifestyle and the media being culture vultures and making him out to be a monster over the past couple years may have had us all in doubt, step back and think about all the times as a child or as an adult and having ur Michael JACKSON track come on…for me it has always been “OFF THE WALL”, its a sng that fuels the soundtrack to my life…and i was very fortunate and blessed to be “THE LUCKIEST KID @ MY SCHOOL” back in 1989 @ Gardner Street Elementary school, in Los Angeles, CA. Our school chose to dedicate the auditorioum to him, and i was chosen to present him w/ the key to the school. Never was i more excited/nervous in my life/childhood, here is someone who literaly i came home to everyday to play and practice my moves. I can remember for a bout a week i had to try n keep my hand tucked away in my pocket because all the kids wanted to have the “MICHAEL JACKSON TOUCH” since i got to shake his hand. Michael Jackson was truly and archtype for performance/entertainment. For starters look @ his style of dress, he always stepped out stunnin, was the ORIGINAL SHINNY SUIT Man, but in the good sense!! So yes ill be celebrating his life all weekend, may his tormented soul be granted serenity and his music is UNIVERSAL and forever, he crossed all cultural barriers worldwide!! Ill be rewatching the entire ceremony of the day i got to meet him.and reminisce over MJJ
He was one of the greates entertainers of all? time!
@contra. wouldnt the man in the mirror be yourself? ha.
