As a hoop head the NBA Draft date you have circled on your calendar. While the Finals are barely two weeks over it’s already time to look forward to the next season

The 2009 Draft Class itself looks to be amongst the weakest in recent years but Blake, Ricky and Hasheem should have no fear cause there’s no way they’re matching the abomination that was the 2000 draft. (Marcus Fizer and Stromile Swift in the top four? Holy shit!) Regardless, you can’t write a history of a draft’s relative strength and weakness until years in the future, so all this prognosticating about the weak crop of players doesn’t mean much. This year’s lock is next year’s bust. Ask Darko.

The real fun in the draft this year is the flurry of activity and rumors as teams try to improve or move dead weight. With Cleveland already making their play for 2010, and a weak crop of players available expect alot of action. The league is broken into two groups, a small group of win-now contenders like the Magic, Celtics, and Rockets and a whole shitload of teams that are trying to unload contracts to save money in the recession and/or free up cap space for the ultimate free agent class. Already we are hearing rumors (update: now confirmed) of the Magic adding some Vinsanity to their backcourt, Amare on his way to join NellieBall in Golden State, (or to the Rockets?) and who knows what the fuck is going on with Boston and Rajon Rondo.

No matter what, it’ll be a wild night for NBA teams and their fans. Hope springs eternal on Draft Night, so bust our your TSS splitter and join us in watching the action unfold.
