I’ll openly admit to liking to Pop music. Not all of it. Just the stuff that’s catchy enough to earn my ear, respect the art form and have a fresh enough beat to keep bringing me back. Think 80′s. Think Madonna. Think Technotronic. Then, don’t think at all.

Just jam.

One song that falls into this category is “Girl With The Pretty Name,” the only piece of music I’ve ever heard from the rapper/singer/songwriter/actor and potential E! True Hollywood Story named Sketch Williams. I discovered this kid and his unappreciated 2008 single when streaming M3 Radio last week, and upon an unsuccessful search for the mp3, did something I usually keep reserved for the time spent on my death bed. Your boy looked up his album on iTunes, came up with City In The Clouds and actually copped the shit.

Now, it’s getting played completely inadvertently through my headphones four and five times in a row, as I nod my noggin in this weird, creepy and possibly balding teeny-bop bliss. What can I say, I got no shame. It’s 110 BPM, to the point and has enough deep synth, bass and pretty piano medleys to satisfy the prerequisites of a good pop song in these times of mainstream radio contradiction (Jeezy and Christina Milan, anyone?).

I know, based on the pic and his junior high jail bait dance crew, you’re writing it off. That’s fine. But, before you start calling me a complete and total fag for cruising around to love songs from Adrien Griener’s bleach-blonde, curly-haired twin from the Disney Channel, just give the song a listen. If you can get past the 1:28 mark, when the instruments drop out and the uncredited duo of rappers perfectly rock the beat, and still truthfully tell me you don’t like this song, please… call me whatever you want.

If you do like it though, you have to tell someone else about it, and give the kid Sketch his due props.

That’s the rule.
