Video: The Cool Kids Want You To Buy A System

This video came at the right time because I was trying to figure out a way to highlight their mixtape.  I popped in Gone Fishing on a drive from Chicago to Ann Arbor figuring it was a fitting choice given the groups background.  I was still on the fence about them as a group, because The Bake Sale EP showed promise, but something was missing.  I really didn’t have a problem with the old school aesthetic they used, but it still seemed like they were in the process of figuring it all out.  Akin to putting on a suit that’s not tailored, sure it fits, but it could use some tightening up.

This time around, the production has a vintage feel, but doesn’t come off as a cheap imitation.  Their everyman lyrics are relateable for most part and fit the music good.  Mikey Rocks and Chuck both stepped up their wordplay, making for a more fluid listen.  It also seems as if they’ve found their identity, which is always a plus.  It’s definitely riding music and a perfect addition to your rotation over this long weekend.  Not to make this a review, but this mixtape is worthy of a spin or two.
