On Monday, Gone Fishing with Cannon drops @ coolxkids.com. And with that will come that usual dosage of ambivalence & loathing of rehashed remarks about TCK: “Their clothes…,” “They ain’t saying nothing,” “They’re trying to be…” rah-rah-sis-boom-bah. On this side, I’m anticipating the release because if you’ve paid close attention, Chuck Inglish’s production has progressed. Where it was once minimal with a mix of raw drum sounds, he’s begun to add a layer or two on top of it, as seen here on “Champions” (co-produced by Cannon). And at the end of the day, his production was the draw early on & still is.
And as far as what they’re saying, well…you’re probably listening too hard. That’s their lane & they’re wide-bodying through it right now. Get with it or get on the sidelines.

i’m sorry but the red line in the title going OVER the text is just bothering the fuck outta me right now.
^Me three.
^ otherwise, I dig the artwork/album cover.
That would be a fresh tee for the summer
The Cool Kids are just as bad as Tech Nine in my humble opinion.
Back in the days of Bill Stephney and Rick Rubin you actually had a thing called quality control, that’s why Def Jam was a such a trend setter.
Speaking of which the Methodman and Redman will show these half baked cats how to do it right.
Call me a hater or a harsh critic or whatever, but whatever man. I’m just saying though, if Large Professor had actually learned Pro Tools and whatever, he’d still be making dope beats, but he didn’t and don’t even get me started on 9th Wonder.
Man I’m just saying though, I don’t even pump hip hop whilst I’m driving, I’d rather listen to something that actually relaxes my senses.
Maybe, rap music has had it’s time, you know like the Blues and Jazz, had their time and wot not.
Because it’s easier now to make a record and get it out there, you don’t even need a record deal. but despite this, there’s still a lot of wack shit.
your a hater or a harsh critic or whatever

except for when they greenlit projects like The Flatlinerz, lol
The Cool Kids are just as bad as Tech Nine in my humble opinion.

Okay, now you’re just plain going overboard lol.
@Chrs, I see today’s mathematics like this in terms of rap music.
These new cats are out of ideas so they will start to re-imagine classic hip hop albums, just like they started remaking classic horror flicks like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and so to be Nightmare on Elm Street.
Sylvia Rhone and Jimmy Iovine will soon sanction the greenlight the remakings of classic hip hop albums.
I dread the day when Kidz In Da Hall remake Camp Lo’s ‘Uptown Saturday’ I’m not saying they will do so, but you get the principle.
Look you got 6 bucks in your pocket, and it’s either Ironman 2 disc edition or that Phonte CD. What do you choose? What do you choose? You see where I’m coming from? Quality man, quality over quantity.
what’s wrong with 9th wonder?
Other than 88 and Black Mags this is the best joint I’ve heard from the Cool Kids.
SMH this cat is talking reckless. You sound like you just can’t appreciate newer music.
im wit “Trill Smith a.k.a The Fresh Prince of the South” if a real hip hop listener like u say why do u not like 9th wonder
@The Kid, man I do appreciate NEWER music, I just don’t appreciate half baked music.
You just deceiving your senses by saying that The Cool Kids, 9th Wonder and all them other cats are dope, when you know they just dropping mixtape quality fodder.
I got a good ear for sound, I know what sounds good and what doesn’t.
A lot of these cats don’t even have any business making rhymes and beats. Why can’t they find another profession? Then they have the gaul to moan about how their album didn’t sell and they had to do a bunch of shows just to get paid.
Well, who told you to put the album in the first place? Go to school, become a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, be something man, be something dammit. The positions in the rap game is filled up.
But then they come out with this shit like, hey man rap is my form of expression! But you’re just saturating the market with wack shit though dude, but I heard you’re a dope electrician and we need more of those.
Look, I’m just saying though, I can appreciate and respect quality, but half baked shit I cannot appreciate and respect.
I call it like I see it, and I’m no dick rider, none of these cats would get sign to my label. But I’m wise enough not to invest my money in a label when there is no real talent out there.
@Pacman, I find 9th Wonder’s beats to be mundane and repetitive, shit has no soul or melody, gives me a headache.
It doesn’t have the essence like say for example the production work of Exile or Pete Rock.
But hey that’s just me.
“I heard you’re a dope electrician ” HA!
your a hater or a harsh critic or whatever

Yeah, gotta agree lol.
The Cool Kids are just as bad as Tech Nine in my humble opinion.

Who you coppin from? I need that plug.
Look you got 6 bucks in your pocket, and it’s either Ironman 2 disc edition or that Phonte CD. What do you choose? What do you choose? You see where I’m coming from? Quality man, quality over quantity.

At this point, put the blunt down b/c you lost me.
You sound like you just can’t appreciate newer music.
==========
Agreed.
Many either wrote TCK off or were suspect. Truth be told, they’ve gotten a lot better &, like I said, Chuck’s pretty damn skilled it seems. More than even I gave him credit for.
Having seen them live, i gotta vouch b/c the whole crowd (not all “hipsters” either) was rocking & nodding to the shit.
Plus their music makes the subs put in a good days work.
lol bitter ass unsigned cat alert…
bamma prolly be spittin that spoken word Malik Yusef garbage..
You ole listen to Kweli at a house party having a convo about how music “jus aint the same anymore” lookin boy…
Look you got 6 bucks in your pocket, and it’s either Ironman 2 disc edition or that Phonte CD. What do you choose? What do you choose? You see where I’m coming from? Quality man, quality over quantity.

I saw this but just chose to look the other way.
The Cool Kids are fucking dope!!! I still bump that Bake Sale EP and the That’s Stupid mixtape. This new tape sounds promising, I can’t wait to hear it.
@ Paw: I respect you my ninja, but you seem stuck in the 90′s. Most of the emcees/producers that you so highly esteem from that time period ain’t sayin’ shit right now. They’re not wack, it’s just that the new cats have something to say and I’d like to hear it.
TCK rock live. They had the whole place going nuts. Chuck is pretty nice with it like Gotty said as well.
love the cool kids
and 9th wonder doesn’t have soul in his beats? when was the last time you listened to “The Listening”?
baby paw – just put a lid on it man.
@B-Moore, do you honestly think I listen to Talib Kweli? Dude, if you’re going to fire parting shots at least make it credit worthy.
@Flea, sup fella it ain’t a 80s thing, a 90s thing or a 00s things. I concur completely a lot of the cats from back in the day, slipped from the stoop and they can’t hang. But the difference between them and these new cats is that they dropped bonafide classics, when it was actually difficult and something of an achievement of doing so.
Critical Beatdown, Cuban Linx, Illmatic, Return of the Boom Bap, The Blueprint (both Jay Z and BDP), Moment of Truth, Midnight Maurauders to name a few. The love, care and talent that went into making these albums, how come most these new age cats ain’t coming correct like that.
Back then artists could only get heard if a fan copped their CD, Vinyl or tape, their song got played on Yo MTV Raps or on the radio or if somebody with their album dubbed a tape for you.
Yet EPMD, KRS One, Tribe all went gold and more, fans were actually going out and buying their music.
Nowadays, it’s so easy to get hold of equipment and programmes to learn to make music, anybody with half a brain can pen a rhyme. Plus you got all these avenues like the net and wot not to unleash your music. It’s never been easier to craft music, pen it, fruity loop or pro tools it, get a little bit of studio time and mix it down and boom you got an album.
Yet still despite all these tools being available why can’t most these artists craft something worthy? It ain’t like they had to go over to Ced Gee’s apartment and ask him hey man can I borrow your AKAI sampler or they all had to travel over to Queensbridge and get some time at Marley Marls studio.
Naa it’s all there, I tell you what it is. It’s a disposable art and a lot of cats who don’t really have much talent or a creative spark use and abuse it. Over saturated the game with all these releases, which aren’t even worthy of Rapidshare or Megaupload. No quality control and the quality gets lost.
The new skool cats, seriously, most of them need to find another vocation, spending their grocery monies, college funds and family up keep money on making an album, that doesn’t create any substance and is just a waste of their time and money. My advice, go to school, learn a trade, be somebody, be responsible, make your mother proud and feed your family. The rap quota is already full, the Jay-Z’s, NAS, 50 Cents, Kanye West, Ghostfaces, Bun-Bs of the world are not about to vacate their positions anytime soon.
We need more Lawyers, Accountants, Doctors, Electricians, Plumbers, Paramedics, Civil Engineers etc etc. These new school cats they got the brains, they just not applying them in the right direction.
I’m sorry, but there really isn’t any scope for many of them in this game, The NWAs, Native Tongues, Wu Tangs, Cold Crush Brothers etc already been there, done it, did that.
Blu & Exile, Wale and Jay Electronica I tip my hat to them, I got respect for them because they got mad talent, but these other cats, man don’t even get me started.
It’s the whole same principle as the 90s when those freaking fake Neo Soul cats arrived on the scene. The multi talented D’Angelo laid it down for them simple and plain but most of them missed the freaking point. You dipshits, quit trying to be Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder or Donny Hathaway that’s just faking the funk. D’Angelo was saying, look you take inspiration from the past time greats, but the formula should be yours the music should reflect your identity. He wasn’t dressing like he was stuck in 1974. he had his black timbs and hoodies and baggie jeans. But naa they all missed it.
The game needs to be purged clean, I’m glad the recession is hitting the labels hard and making them re-think their strategies. Cats need to go away and revitalise their creative energies, because they killing the game.
Who’s holding down the forte? Is it these new hipster cats?
Naa man of course not, it’s the veterans like Ghostface, Jay-Z, NAS, Methodman, Redman, Kanye West, Bun-B and Scarface.
The quota’s full, there isn’t any more room. My advice to them is go away and study the classics carefully, learn to count bars, how to mix down a record, how to flip a sample, what beat compliments your voice, how to construct a song and maybe then you’ll stand a chance.
Because if not then they’ll just treat you like yesterdays newspaper.
^^^^
What’s really wrong? Cause it can’t be the music. Damn, and my boys think I take this shit too seriously…
@Deen, you could at least have the courtesy of saying A’Salaam-a-laykum so that I can returning the greeting with Waa-laykum Salaam.
Nowt wrong over here guv’na. Anyway, continue this some other time, the sun is shining bright in Blighty today and so I must make the most of it. Today I will mostly be listening to Jay Electronica and Billy Joel in my hooptie, but I sport my ‘driving shoe’ since I don’t want to scuff my suede Clyde’s. Yes, the driving shoe.
Until later on, Allah Hafiz and be well and TSS is Major!
@Baby Paw:
You’re right, everything has been done in hip hop, there’s no point in making anything new anymore. We can all go home now, everyone, it’s over.
@Baby Paw
It ain’t even like that. You know we don’t do courtesy on the internets…
There are a ton of jokers infiltrating the game these days, but the cool kids don’t deserve to be lumped in with them. I suppose the image and the music go together, but we should be able to separate that shit. I like the music, even though the influences are obvious and I could care less about the style. Their steez just seems authentic to me and that comes from the music.
If they make an album with 12 songs like the ones above, they’ll get a purchase for sure.
why do u non-TCK boppers say their half-ass
GTFO with a “i listen to Midnight Marauders, and Illmactic and Reasonable Dought”….BLAH BLAH BLBAH BLAHHHHH
just because Mikey and Chuck dont sound like a Nas or Q-Tip doesnt mean its shitty quality
and for the record Chuck HIMSELF own Tech nine, and MF Doom, and any other rapper with a WACK ASS NAME that cant seems to make a decent conversation on the music media outlet
When Fish ride Bicycles is thee Shit, and im outty
BABYPAW, nobody gives a shit about how much your dad beats you and rapes you.. stop hatin on the cool kids and stop makin internet beef..why you lookin up the cool kids if you hate them?? well go fuck yourself then..your a stupid fanboy..WHO THE HELL LISTENS TO JAY ELECTRONA ANYMORE YOU FUCKING DOUCHEBAG LOONY!!
Go burn in hell babypaw
