“Hopped up out the bed, turn my swagggg oonnnnn/Took a look in the mirror said ‘what’s up’”
I don’t care what you say you mun-kees © Rawse.
But if Soulja Boy can find beats like this in between making YouTube vids & participating in beefs with all challengers, why in the bloody name of all things holy can’t artists like Nas and all others affected by with QB Syndrome find production like this? Sure, Natural Disaster and Antonio Top Cat are unheard of, but if young Deandre can find them, why can’t Budden, Ortiz, etc.?
Say what you will about SB’s content, lyrical abilities…hell, his whole artistic persona. But knowing that a major factor in the success of a song lies in the beat, I would say he’s doing one thing right, which leads to the other thing he’s doing correctly: making hits.
This post is brought to you after a recent witnessing of “Turn My Swag On” come through the speakers @ two separate parties and the crowd losing it, literally. Whether they had it to begin with is totally arguable but beside the point @ this juncture.

this song automatically loses for having the word “swag” in it
“I got a question why they hatin’ on me, I ain’t did nothing to ‘em but count this money…”
I cosign this post 100%.
Don’t tell anyone, but I also enjoy ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone,’ which is another hit song by SB burning up radio right now. The beat is perfect for the FM and the hook is super catchy. Lyrics aside, of course.
it will be interesting to see 5 years from now where SB will be…

Rich lol
We’re talking about now, we’re talking beats. Nothing else. Not his contributions to the culture or any of that. And if we’re talking beats, how he can keep winning w/these beats…and some of these aggins can’t find one enjoyable/listenable song.
The beat is good … I’m wondering if part of his appeal is that he sounds slightly retarded. He is making the most of his lane. Props to the kid.
“everything ain’t for everybody”
… word to Lauryn Hills lame skits that still couldn’t ruin a classic album.
I know SB does some stuff on the production side as well… he didn’t produce this joint did he? If so… some cats may need to bite the bullet and give the little homey a ring.
If he asks if he can feature on the joint, just throw some extra dough his way so he won’t. lol
because of the remix vid w/ wayne coming soon
that will be on radio and tv during this whole summer

Or some stray shots with some good ole Chopped and screwed, like some old Swisha house tapes?
Would be appreciated, my pod needs some chopped and screwed.

I think SB’s gonna have a lengthy career just because dude is doing him. This isn’t some contrived persona and that’s what I dig about the kid and the way he’s being handled. His growth has been organic. He fits perfectly in that Gucci Mane/OJ Da Juiceman/Shawty Lo lane, but he’s way more marketable.
My response was predicated off the predicted reply that I expected to hear hehe. Dude’s isn’t valuable to music in any real sense. But he’s a kid, making money & making music. There’s literally hundreds of thousands of kids AND adults who wouldn’t mind switching it up & doing what he’s doing.
I should go out just to see how big of a hit this kid is @ rollerskating rinks w/this track. I know I saw white, black & indonesians doing that “superman” shit when I went a long time ago & they played that.
Ye — I’m not all that hip to Screw’s music outside of a few things here & there.
“but if young Deandre can find them, why can’t Budden, Ortiz, etc.?”
Because Budden and Ortiz (who I don’t like at all, but that’s beside the point) actually prefer boring beats. I mean, that’s pretty obvious. I’m not sure what Ortiz would do with a beat like this anyway, certain beats are suited for a less verbose style.
The reason why I don’t fuck with this stuff?
It’s the principle. I’m too grown for this mush-mouthed ignorance. I don’t even react to this shit in the club. When it comes on, I make the girl go get me a drink…
psssst…..
Not everybody thinks these type of (or this particular), beat is tight. I definitely don’t think Nas needs to switch anything up in order to receive the type of energy that Soljah Boy receives–nor would I imagine that he would want to. Soljah Boy’s lyrics, beats, “swag,” impact, or however you would guys would like to slice & dice it will be proven to be rather insignificant in the scope of Hip Hop, music, and culture (past & future)–to me. Understanding that I speak for myself solely; let me say here that I for one would not recommend to any emcee (past, present, or future), that they try to find “Soljah Boy type beats.” In my view that is the definition of the wrong thing to do. To clarify and contextualize further; there are I feel worse things going on in Hip Hop but, since we are talking about this particular slice of ridiculousness…
In my opinion this article needs to be archived so as to show record to the decline in Hip Hop via this discourse on the internet. What a ridiculous concept to base “original content” around. Just post another picture of a naked girl or something.
No disrespect to Soljah Boy (or to the writer of this article). The former is doing what he thinks is good and he believes in himself. He just lacks any and all historical consciousness (like many of the young & young adults of today). In this sense he’s just another victim of the system and the writer is just one of his peers…
Catchy hook? Maybe.
Funny video? Its possible.
But nice track!?!
I know two ninjas who can duplicate this track on FL Studio in less than 15 minutes. Not to say it doesn’t knock, but I’ve already heard many renditions of this same song from Polow, Zaytoven, and Shawty Redd over the past few years.

@Mencius of Thebes — Is that you Gza?
@ Mencius of Thebes- is that you Gza Bol?
1. That shit was way too long. Let me guess, you were once a rapper but no one wanted to hear that whole “pi=, nebula” shit you were spittin and now your salty some punk ass kid has a deal.
2. If you let some teenager get you riled up..there’s a good chance you’re lonely. get some pussy
3. Don’t generalize. I’m 19, I run across folks who are historically conscious
4. There’s more than one way to make hip-hop. It aint all boom bap.
Props to Trillie Nelson.
I love his beats. I bet if one of these lyrical cats jumped on the right track. (And It doesn’t have to be NaS, it could be Ray Cash) they would probably make a banger that everyone could feel.
No lie. This songs bumps in the club like no other. Gets folks hype as well as does Keri Hilson’s remix.
