“Real Talk” – Review Of Stat Quo’s Smokin Mirrors
ALBUM REVIEWS By Landon A. on May 27, 2009 at 3:06 pmStat Quo’s rap career has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. After parting ways with the Doctor and Eminem’s Aftermath record label, Stat continued to get in on any project available. His mixtape game is on point and he’s managed to collaborate with everyone from T-Pain to Bobby Ray. Now, we see the release of his full length street LP Smokin’ Mirrors, a foggy journey through the mind of one of A-Town’s finest.
The record starts out strong with “Swaggin’ On The Beat,” where Statlanta spits darts over fat drums and equally fat horns; the beat provided by new comer Dub Z. “Real Talk,” which is Smokin’ Mirrors’ sickiest of the icky © Rick James Bitch! carries on with the album’s slow and steady approach and verbally Stat tackles social issues with a hook that explains it all. Other notables include the alluring “Push Me Away” and Mary Jane,” which finds SQ literally singing a love ballad to a weed plant. The synth and bass heavy combo compliment the choked out subject matter like Zig-Zag’s® to cannabis.
While Stat Quo is certainly a talented artist and most definitely shines far above many of his ATL brethren, the album lacks anything exciting we haven’t already seen from Stat. The production and lyrics are cohesive and the album bangs from start to finish, Stat is yet to grow into his skin as a mainstream artist. Another qualm is that the record is about the same length as an episode of Seinfeld, much to short for an LP.
Still, Stat flexes his growing lyrical muscles over an array of equally talented and fresh beats, certainly no smoke and mirrors on this LP, all organic, all Stat.

Here’s a 3 Cig album, but go on ahead & break bread anyway, here’s the link to iTunes…
Decent album. Nothing earth shattering or ground breaking, but it’s definitely some good music to light one up & vibe out to.
THINK ABOUT IT
NAS – ILLMATIC
Length of a Seinfeld LP
Nas – NASTRADAMUS
Length of a shitty Hollywood Comedy
Which one would you rather have?
hmm
This is no illmatic sir….. But it wasn’t the length that kept it from getting that extra .5 cig, it was the fact that stat didn’t do anything earth shattering for his career on this joint. same stat over slightly better beats
same stat over slightly better beats

Yup. More like an extension of his recent mixtapes then a full blown LP.
I’m a Stat fan though, so I enjoyed it anyway.
I’m really looking forward to that Statlanta leak he’s been promising. I’m expecting that to be incredible, if Stat ever puts it out there.
