When artists do covers, I expect them to best the last version that I heard. Creatively. Vocally. Whatever. The challenger must outdo the previous entry, whether it be the original artist or another artist covering a song as well. That’s it.
None of this is to say that Raheem’s version isn’t respectable. I just wish he hit it with the same vocal passion as used for something like “Green Leaves.”
I’m simply waiting on someone to top Christina’s version that appeared on Herbie Hancock’s Grammy-winning Possibilities.

Raheem is underrated
no one should fuck with donny hathaway.
i saw him perform this on the trumpet awards a few weeks ago. i was slightly impressed.
but not really.
and yep…i’m still downloading…but only so i can play it for folks and compare it to the real true thing.
Donny owns this song … impossible to top his version.
co-sign Rich & Ragga
some songs can NEVER sound better, just different…
Methinks you should give Christina’s a try.
Up Donny’s version. i want all 3 lol.
Gotty,
I will respect your opinioin on damn near anything and I respect this. Although Christina and Raheem did their thing, NO ONE messes with Donny.
It’s a reason Joey used his version for the intro on MM2.

I’ll make sure I do.

^^Donny’s version.
Gotty, you’re one of the most respected bloggers on the net, but I have to agree with the masses…Donny’s version at the top of the mountain.
Raheem & Christina did their thing, however.
None of those Donny links work.
TSS,
I apologize about flooding the comments section.

Oh nah, none of them are fuckin w/Hathaway’s. But if we’re talking doing justice to it, Christina’s does about a 7-8 on a 10-scale.
Plus it’s not just her. Herbie’s piano gives the song a whole added spin.
Coppin State representer….
Aguilera gets an 8.5 to 9 — still not touching Donny but it’s excellent.
