“Notable Quotable” - Eminem’s “Deja Vu”
AUDIO By TC on May 18, 2009 at 12:07 pm“AS I, fall deeper into a manic state
I’m a prime candidate for the gene to receive the drug addict trait
Blood pressure climbs at a dramatic rate
I seem to gravitate to the bottle of Nyquil® then I salivate
Start off with the Nyquil® like “I think I’ll just have a taste”
Couple sips of that then I gradually graduate
To a harder prescription drug called Valium like “Yeah that’s great”
I go to take just one and I end up like having eight
Now I need something in my stomach cuz I haven’t ate
Maybe I’ll grab a plate of nachos and I’ll have a steak
And you’d think with all that I have at stake
Look at my daughters face….
Mommy something’s is wrong with dad I think
He’s acting weird again he’s really beginning to scare me
Won’t shave his beard again and he pretends he doesn’t hear me
And all he does is eat Doritos® and Cheetos® and he just
Fell asleep in his car eating 3 Musketeers® in the rear seat…”
Eminem from “Déjà Vu” off Relapse
How many recovering drug addicts do you know that vividly (and accurately) recap the events leading up to their overdose, let alone put it into poetry in motion? The song delves deeper in the later verses (”Wouldn’t even be taking the shit if DeShaun didn’t die”) but the opener forecasts the calm before the storm.
It may be called “Déjà Vu” but you haven’t heard Em like this before. Just a Q-tip® for those who say Relapse is the same song and dance.

Eminem is the William S Burroughs of Hip Hop.
album is good but it’s not BO2
@ Baby Paw: Good observation. In this album, he’s definitely channeling his spirit.
@ Baby Paw: are you calling him a well-known homosexual?
somebody was on here asking about DJ Screw…
DJ Screw Discography (this seems pretty complete):
http://thegodfathertrilogy.blogspot.com/2009/04/dj-screw-discography-updated.html
The lyrical heat and wordplay in the cd is ridiculous…no one can discount that at all…Blackout 2 whatever they are not phucking with Ems skill with words…pill popping or not this dude is a beast on the mic with no competition…Nas, Jay whomever else you wanna name…Lyrically Chino XL or RA the Rugged Man maybe the only ones close
this is one of the few cuts where he delivers the mature album i wish relapse was, beautiful has some lyrical gems too, and same song and dance is dope for the old serial killer vibe…..still have some hope for relapse 2, cause he is clearly capable of making some genius work, im just personally tired of the slim shady rehashing
and that annoying fucking voice
@Deen, ha ha ha!
Not quite, but Slim Shady seems to be channeliing it a bit like ‘The Beat Generation’ drugs, male on male sexual abuse, family values and themes turned on their head.
Seems like he taken a leaf out of writers like Burroughs, Ginsberg, Hunter S Thompson etc.
Shocking themes? Only if you look at it that way, some how I found the lyrical content of Relapse to be more easily digestable than the themes covered in Park Chan Wook’s film OLDBOY.
But still Eminem knows what buttons to push to get a reaction, I think he did a lot of reading and self exploration whilst he was on his sabbatical from the game.
Hell’s Winter vs Relapse
What’s the verdict?
anybody got a high quality version of shining down…the low quality sucks balls
@Baby Paw
hell’s winter by a landslide
@Misterchane, both top albums, but yep Hell’s Winter is a much more accomplished set and that’s word to Shia Lebeouf.
Should I listen to this now or wait til tomorrow?
lol at all the “rights reserved”s
the albums dope any one that says otherwise is lying to themselves.
i hope he loses that accent though.
K-E-Y-get at me if you get that…..
this song kick ass.
