This is pure wank, fuck off!
No wait, this is quite good actually.
Grown folk hip hop
The New Danger was off the key chain, not sure why some folk slept on that one.
Ok, it took a few listens to grow on you, but once you unlocked the flavours contained within the music, it was a proper brillo for rillo listening experience.
Dear Mighty Mos Def,
Makes me like the song even more.
I can tell you why The New Danger is so slept on/hated.
1. As Lil Wayne is finding out also.. rap and rock do not attract fans of either to the other. The mesh must be perfect or it comes across as noise.
2. The New danger was basically a platform for the band Black Jack Johnson. If you liked them you were looking and looking only to not find. If you didn’t you hated 60% of the album before it played.
3. Nothing on the album suggested that HE listened to B.o.B.S. before he pushed out the album.
Then the bonus was tossing TruMagic out on an unsuspecting listening public.
Mos Def has the ability to be greater than his peers, but when list of the greatest from BK are written or talked about his name brings about an uncomfortable pause.
I don’t knock him for thinking outside the normal and I believe he is one of the few out that can produce on demand, against anyone. Sadly that includes himself most times.
I can’t wait for the new album to drop, at first didn’t like this Casa Bey track, but a couple more listens and hey it’s good indeed.
@Belve10, thanks for the detailed response, I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head. It was a very ambitious project on Mos Def’s part. Not sure why I didn’t initially go for the stop button on the stereo, but I just let it play and gradually I grasped the sounds and it grew on me.
Personally, I think sometimes he doesn’t try hard enough or sometimes he tries to hard, yep, good of him to think outside of the box, but he’s got to get the balance right.
