It’s unfortunate that Dilla died when he did. He’s had more press from the Hip-Hop community than he ever did when he was alive and now he’s not here to see the love. We all know the story and the heartbreaking reality that surrounds his estate, but even with all the turmoil Ma Dukes has found a way to executive produce his final album Jay Stays Paid with the help of a few of Hip-Hop’s most intriguing acts. Pete Rock is set to do the musical arranging, and with a little help from rappers Blu, Raekwon and Lil’ Fame the project looks to be well worth the money.
The lead single from the project, “Reality TV” is an infectious song with a beat that puts Dilla’s immaculate timing on display with a couple of quick guitar chops along with a few vocal pieces. Black Thought, who plays master of ceremonies, namedrops a plethora of reality TV shows over Dilla’s composition all while telling the tale of his annoyingly simple-minded baby mother who has fallen so deep into the world of reality TV that she has lost all sense of her own reality.
“Jay Stays Paid” drops on June 2nd. Make sure to grab a copy or two.

That’s how it always is, people love you more when your not around to hear it
BT on anything is fire A Dilla Beat is just gravy
Thought kinda murks this one.
I wonder how deep the vaults are for Dilla’s beats. How many more years & projects do they have left?
Jay-Z said it best in the 3rd verse of December 4th. Joni Mitchell said it, too. We all know how we are. We have to have something taken away before we appreciate it fully.
Thought really murks this one.
Black thought has murked everything he’s ever done. Talk about being underrated and not being appreciated before someone’s gone. The Roots aren’t holding him back, but damn he’s so ill and no one outside of the underground audience even acknowledges him.
@ Gotty,
I’m guessin’ we’ll get enough Dilla projects to make up for the debts and lost revenues that almost none of his so-called friends and associates helped him fight for while he was alive.
The cat was no saint, but i have a feeling that most of the artists he made beats for low-balled him or took advantage of their relationship with him to get way more out of him than they should’ve.
Now his mom’s gonna end up hockin’ everything he made and sellin’ it to effin’ K-Tel or some random ass publisher (like Jive or IDJ) just to put some food on the table.
Speaking of which, how’s Pun’s wifey/off-spring doing these days?
Jay Deeeeeeeeeeeee
@Tru School
Oh Them niggas know. He’s the dude you really don’t want to be on a song with because he’ll murk you on ya own shit not even trying to but just with his standard rhymes. Trust they know
it’s like how QBs wouldn’t thrown to Deon Sanders side of the field

funny yall posted this shit right now…i been bumpin “Champion Sound” all night and dankin 100 proof…specifically “The Red” and the remix to that joint…i been said it before and i’ll say it again: i wasn’t really up on dilla (no rainbow) til ole boy passed…but he was the truth…seems like every time i listen to some mid-90s hip-hop that’s dope and soulful, i check out the credits and it’s dilla
I’m with you Sherm. It’s shameful to admit that I wasn’t aware of Dilla until well after he had passed. But now, I play his material all of the time.
he was the go-to producer for real hip-hop artists before people really started checkin for producers like that…
When I got this track last month, I blew out the one of speakers in my truck.
Long Live J DILLA!
So the proceeds go to Ma Dukes?
If that’s the case, then I’m in.
i dont really get why people love to support dead artists moms…i mean, shit, give your own mom $10, if shes like mine, she needs it.

==============
when people are stealing Dilla’s beats and using them after he passed without permission and his moms going through the same medical condition that he passed from, if youre a hip hop fan and you got any compassion in your heart whatsoever, why wouldnt you want to lend a helping hand
as for your moms, please hit her off with that $10 spot, cause she stays coming around asking for a front on these red tops and im getting tired of telling her to step the fuck off…im trying to get paid.
^ lol
