“..Put the word ‘Freedom’ out of your vocabulary”
Revolutionary minds always get played out of due gratitude.
For instance, today should be a holiday. If MLK gets a day, Malcolm X should get one too. Simple logic. Both men’s nobility were equally necessary factors of the change that followed them.
Before building bridges, we had to tear down walls. Malcolm’s fighting spirit fueled the tearing down, while Martin’s words and actions inspired the building.
Yet it still somehow feels like Martin got all the praise while Malcolm got the cold shoulder. Malcolm got some acclaim, and some fame, but never the date dedicated to his name. (Kinda like Biggie’s March 9th and 2Pac’s September 13th, as far as Hip-Hop Holidays are concerned.)
Either way, today we remember the birth of one of the greatest revolutionary forces to take human form that forever changed our worlds, words and minds.
Peace Brother Shabazz.
BONUS
Vincent over at THIMK periodically posts various Malcolm X speeches. Here’s one where he addressed Berkeley University on October 11th, 1963.

Download — Malcolm X Speaks At Berkeley University (Part Two)

real talk yall.
Malcolm was too militant to ever get a day in a white America. Look how hard activists had to fight to get King a day. He still has a street named after him in every hood in the country, but that’s not saying much. So does King.
P.S. Spielberg’s producing an MLK Jr. biopic.
I don’t think anything can top Denzel’s Detroit Red.
Happy Birthday Brother Malcolm!
El Hajj Malik Shabazz.
Allah bless the departed.
The problem was that when he finally saw clarity and was about to spread it, they killed him.
Amp said it all…
“Get yo’ hand outta my pocket!”
Happy B-day Malcolm. Your legacy speaks for itself and we have not forgotten the lessons you’ve taught us about the struggle for justice.
He was a tough, hard edged and sometimes undiplomatic with what he said. Obviously his childhood and first stages of manhood moulded his character.
But how he was rolling as an adult and some of the people around him also had a bearing on this.
After he became a Hadji, his eyes finally opened, the veil of ignorance that covered his eyes was finally lifted and that was a pivotal stage, but then they assassinated him. Telling you had he not been assassinated, who knows how the rest of it would have unfolded, but they cut his life short. But alas, we don’t come with a life expectancy guarentee in this life, when your time is up, it’s up, not a second more or less.
But I’m happy that he did the pilgrimage, because that finally melted away the shreds of ignorance that was distorting his clarity.
His biography should be a part of school curricular, fullstop, The autobiography of Malcolm X, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton you know good reading material like that, makes peoples minds expand.
I read The Autobiography Of Malcolm X on my own accord, back when I was 12 or 13. My pops had an old copy and a few pages in, I was hooked. I remember finishing it in a couple of days and starting all over again from the beginning lol.
Come to think about it, I think that book really influenced me and my perspective on stuff back then.
A mind once expanded by a new idea,
Never returns to its original dimensions
That pic is awesome. RIP Malcolm
@Ampgeez, yes, powerful and captivating reading indeed.
I would say there was a certain moment in time during the early 90s when the brand ‘X’ was almost as popular as Air Jordan.
The baseball cap with the X, the t-shirt with the X, it seemed as if a lot of folks was sporting a piece of attire with X on it. :)
Shoutout for reppin brother Malcolm on his bornday. Not the pop culture Malcolm, but the revolutionary, political, community orientated Malcolm. The Malcolm who started with anger, but learned to embrace love. The Malcolm who understood exclusion, but discovered how inclusion could be revolutionary.
Now if only a rapper would make a hot line bout Malcolm to quote….lol j/k j/k
i’m so glad someone remembered this man’s birthday………
and the Malcolm before the hadjj was just fine. I overstand the cowardice and ignorance that goes with people that bring the topic up when his name is mentioned…..
Does anyone have a collection of his speeches available for download including the ballot or bullet one.
