Overall, the promo & packaging for this album > the audio.
Yeah, I said it.

your out of your mind… album of the year… album of last year too… if it came out then ofcourse…
to me the fact eminem was one of the best to ever do it… then fell off… and has now come back is something that will cement him as a legend… only Nas has done this aswell… maybe others but fuck it.
^^ ok, stan.
the album sucks, period. and this is coming from someone who was rooting for him to return to his rightful place in hip-hop. either he needs to truly relapse into the drugs or … get back into doing drugs.
This album sucks, co-sign Gotty. “Crime Pays” drops today so I prescribe that instead for all of my hiphop patients.
ps: KILLA!!!
Yes, the flow is despicable…but I can only pretend to be entertained by a (faux) drug-addicted, serial rapist/killer for so long…20 tracks? I’m gonna need some sort of substance eventually…with that said *runs off to buy 2 copies of Crime Pays*
The Marshall Mathers LP > Relapse > The Slim Shady LP > The Eminem Show > …
Yeah, I said it. Lol.
I don’t know what some of you expected,
but Relapse is fire. Album of the year … easy.
And I’m not even a big fan of Eminem.
I didn’t think Relapse was horrible; but it does contain more skippable tracks than his previous lp’s combined. Hopefully he saved the real heaters for Relapse 2.
Eminen, No, but Cam’ron yes??? come on guys
i suppose you mans aren’t checking for the new meth and reggie coz the new fat joe is dropping the same day… wastemans lol
get back into doing drugs.
=============
lmao
@omar, I was thinking the same thing. I think alot of these folks are a little use to soulja boys and waynes.
@ nate – not the folks over here. i’d like to think that most of us can distinguish real music from the throwaway shit that’s out now. i never thought there’d be a day when i’d be checkin’ for cam’s album over em’s … but today is that day.
Definitely not best Em album. it’s better than a lot of what’s out right now but it’s average for his skill level
This “greatness” of Relapse…describe it.
If you say the man’s ability to flip flows….I acknowledge that…but what else? It takes more than flow to be classic……….otherwise, Kriss Kross woulda been GOAT (jk)…but really…
…put it up against Hip Hop classics……no substance, replay value is only for the flow, hit single? not seeing it….where’s the greatness?
…his ability to come back?…nah, Maxwell’s comeback is Greatness……….this, more like Fernando Tatis…..*ahem* or Britney Spears.
@ Levar: Real talk my ninja, I think that some of us here can’t accept the fact that those whom we once heralded as the uppper echelon of emcees ain’t bringing the heat as in times past.
Promo better than the music?
You buggin.
This is the best album of the year.
I want to read a TSS review of it.
Too see if y’all really listened to the songs
Anything dropped by Em and Dre is an instant classic.
The Relapse aint no exception to that.
It’s just right there with everything from Pac and Big.
@ flea – you always speak the truth. now bear in mind, valhalla says that WE won’t be checkin’ for red & mef and would rather buy joey crack …. uh, yeah, if the music is consistent and warrants a purchase (you being one of the few heads who admits to buying music). but, for me, red & mef show and prove, whereas joseph cartagena does not. therefore … let ‘em stay in the past (lol).
@ Levar: Ha ha!! Real talk, Joey Crack will NEVER see shelf space on my cd rack. Still, as you said if the music warrants a purchase then it is good as bought, which in this case would be Crime Pays and not Relapse.
Em came out while I was in 8th grade and I have always been a big fan but…..
Crime Pays>>Relapse
so far in my listening
@ levar F.M.
thats funny cause I have never checked for a cam album period.
ems flow is fuckin crazy I know for a fact alot of people have not listened to it enough or even gave it a chance.
Insanity? Can it be vanity?
Where’s the humanity in having a twisted fantasy
With an arm and leg amputee
The motherfucker is nuts…
I just got fuckin’ chased off with a chainsaw
Then he took the chainsaw, bit the fuckin’ blades off
Ate the blades, stuck a baseball in a slingshot
Then he aimed at his own face, let the thing pop
Took his eye out, picked it up and played ping pong
Then he played ping pong with his own ding dong
That motherfucker’s got nuts like King Kong
listen to the lyric people not just the words but how he spits….who else is doing this?
Two weeks sobriety I ain’t enlightened
Biting into a f*ckin Vicodin like I’m a Viking
Oh lightning is striking it might be a f*cking sign I need a psychic
Evaluation f*ck Jason it’s Friday the nineteenth
That means it’s just a regular day
And this is the kind of sh*t I think of regularly
F*ckin lesbian shouldn’t of had her legs in the way
Now she’s pregnant and gay missing both legs and beggin to stay
ok I might need some help if i like this shit.
Ill artwork.
Relapse is a good album. Good, not great.
the meth and reggie was just an comparison to what checking for cam’ron over em is…
but too not see how relapse is a great album is what i can’t fathom… eminems lyrical skill is amazing… ability to rhyme multi syllable verses with wit and style while still maintaing the subject matter without it sounding stretched (ie lyricism) is above that of the upper echelon (i do like this phrase though) of lyrical emcees like pharoahe monch and crooked i and his flow is amazing… admittedly there singles are shit (no ‘guilty consciense’ or ‘the way i am’) but this is true of every commercial album… he’s much more versatile as an emcee than any other top rapper bar none… and in terms of a big label releases… eminem has more quality tracks on this album than kanye has had on four albums… wayne on ’10′… i would say the marshall mathers lp is better than this but not by much… even underground beasts such as vakill (most intelligent lyricist – check him out) or Blu would struggle to compete with this level of heat…
this is a 5 cig album… if the review scale is maintained from album to album… the fact that at the moment hip hops skill level is so low that an album like this comes out… AND STILL GETS HATED/SLEPT ON… is a joke.
listen to the lyric people not just the words but how he spits….who else is doing this?

WC, Wayne, Asher, Rich boy, Jeezy …a bunch of folks switch the proper pronunciation of words for the sake of rhyming
Curren$y- This aint no Mixtape>>>>> Relapse
Crime Pays better than Relapse?
That fake thug shit better than Em’s honesty on Relapse?
Bet some of y’all listen to Rick Ross too…

@ VALHALLA.
THANK YOU.

@madmax
you know damn well they listen to ricky ross. LOL nice point.
“WC, Wayne, Asher, Rich boy, Jeezy …a bunch of folks switch the proper pronunciation of words for the sake of rhyming”
But none of them, except Asher, is honest and real like Em on Relapse.
Remember, HipHop is about Realness..
@ Trill Smith a.k.a The Fresh Prince of the South
LOL.
thats all
lol.
asher? the kid is sick. but where de you think he got his style?
@Nate
Really, I didn’t even know, but judging on the comments some made….
@ Trill Smith: Damn straight!!! That Curren$y album is hell fire, Spitta is that dude. JETS!
LOL @ people choosing Curren$y’s mixtape over Relapse
Talking bout realness: http://www.hip-hopkings.com/2009/05/rick-ross-wearing-fake-louis-vuitton/
@ mad Max..Its an album dumbass
is honest and real like Em on Relapse.
=============
oh wow..rapping bout drugs you dont do and killing folks and faking mental illness is keeping it real?
@ Flea.. “On top of the money like a dope boy mattress”…plus that Cook Up is heat rocks
@ Trill Smith a.k.a The Fresh Prince of the South
yeah real, its reall what he feels and is not afraid to put it out there. Em is not even rappin about getting a fucking grammy.
Half these rapper are just rappin about fake shit they wish they had or not showing REAL FEELINGS cause they want a stupid award.
Em is like fuck it…
Hit a fag with onions
Then split a bag of Funyons
what!
I mean im not anti gay or anything like that but if he is going to put his heart on a album I am going to listen to it and respect that. alot of these rappers lack emotion like pac and em have/had.
Dumbass? You’r the one listening to fake simple thugs, wanker.
——————————————————————
The way Em reps about his life, feelings and shit is done original. With crazy wordplay.
And he makes a fool out of himself and doesnt take himself even that serious, just like the RS-article states, he is a modern day Richard Pryor joking about his weak moments. The album is full of self-critism. You should have noticed.
Em aint anywhere near the fake thugs you listen to and look up to. Fact.
NEXT!
@MADMAX
YOU CANT SAY MUCH TO NICK CANNON FANS.
@NATE

sorry. but. Relapse iz underrated.
u think shady’s lil bit weak now
Relapse 2′s best stuff will be
for you muthafuckaz !
Em aint anywhere near the fake thugs you listen to and look up to. Fact.
==============
umm…stop assuming I look up to “fake thugs.” Dumbass
Im sorry I would rather hear dope music I can relate to.
I’ll take “Medicine Ball”… “Deja Vu”… “Crack A Bottle” (for easy promo of the album), and then just the beats from the other songs.
I feel like Em should’ve re-worked the rest of these joints.
If you think Relapse is the best album so far this year, then this may be the wrong genre of music for you to be listening to.
Sad thing is… this album didn’t miss being just as good as most of the hip-hop albums released in 2009 by much.
If someone were to try selling you a refridgerator with you knowing that it would only keep half of your food cold, would you still buy it? Hell Naw! I’ll purchase Relapse only because of the fact that I’ve already bought albums that are soooo much more terrible than this one. I bought Kingdom Come so I’ll give Eminem his freebie as well.
Now Eminem owe’s me an American Gangster. He has exactly one year to pay up… just like Jay did. lol
:/
Oh yeah…
Props to Interscope’s Marketing Department… You’ve done it again!!!!
Congratulations. Job well done. :)
It’s funny how the Eminem fanboys are trying validate his wack album by disparaging us who don’t like it as idiots. We like fake thuggery??? No we just like GOOD music that’s all. Please don’t assume that we can’t decipher lyrical, abstract rhymes with multiple flows, as if that’s what constitutes a good song or album. Everybody here pretty much has eclectic tastes when it comes to hiphop, so quit generalizing that ninjaz listen to wack shit if they don’t like the wack shit that you like.
^Stans on parade!
a song about I.B.S.> 5 songs about mother loathing/drug addiction/sociopathic fantasies
I like Mr. Mathers (talented fellow) but his style (however multisyllabic) isn’t doing it for me anymore – I think I replayed “3AM” a total of 4 times since it was released to the internet…Mr. Giles, on the other hand, makes me laugh with his wordplay and I have had the advance singles of his (radio edits and all) on steady repeat in my IPod for several months now…..
I will be picking up Crime Pays this week
and waiting several months for a Relapse remix project to pop up somewhere online
that packaging is pretty dope.
this is the cool thing about the internet and different opinions…your all right, bt in your own ways. its up to the individual to decide whether or not they like this album or another.
my opinion the album is good –
old times sake
must be the ganja
deja vu
beatiful
underground -( real dope)
hello
stay wide awake
bagpies from bagdhad
…and most of the beats are bangers. i dont know how many of you own cars with audio systems ? turn it up…
and the killa is dope to, but i can only go so far about songs bout bottom of pussyholes ?
Em stans are out in full force!
solid album…not his best (which i think is why everyone is downing it..when youve put out classic legendary CDs in the past people hold you to that standard for the rest of your career) not the worst, but solid as fuck nonetheless
I’m far from a fanboy, but this is easily the best shit I’ve heard all year…
^^^
Everyone should give the music time to sink in. I know the leak (s) have been out for a minute and the album just dropped today but sit with the music, blaze to it (if that’s what you do), ride around with it in your car, on the train on the bus whatever but give the music a chance.
Not just saying it for Em but for every release that your into. Everyones quick to co-sign or disregard albums so quickly then come back months or years later and be like…”I slept on this (insert album title here).
I’m not completely sold on Em or Cam yet because I haven’t listened enough yet.
Good day folks.
RMF!
Great point DDM.
i’m usually along with alot of your thoughts, but i seriously do not agree with your posts against relapse at all. i consider it his second best album, production, flow, wordplay, it has all of them. sorry, i am entertained by em, period. his last album was shit, but this is way better than his last album. like i said, i usually agree with your posts, but disagree completely with the negativity. listen to every song except “rockstar” and “crack a bottle” and will reccomend it to all who ask.
^ Nah bruh.
If its a hit.. it doesn’t have to sink in.
^ Co-sign
I’ll say this about Relapse: when it’s good, it’s great; when it’s bad, it’s fuckin horrible. The first half of the album is so fuckin good, I was let down by the sacond half. I don’t think anyone can say that Em isn’t back on his bullshit (no busta) with this album, though. He is what he is. He said in that XXL interview that he was gonna do what him and proof used to talk about, which is just say the craziest, most fucked-up shit they could think of and make it sound dope. I think he did that with 60-70% of Relapse. There are 9 dope joints out of 15 songs (not counting skits) by my count. What more do you want from a rap album?
*sacond = second…lol*
“umm…stop assuming I look up to “fake thugs.” Dumbass
Im sorry I would rather hear dope music I can relate to.”

That’s because you foam caca out the mouth..
Just like Camron…Or Currency….with their played out rhymes, lying about selling 2 grams of cheap drugs. Heard that over 1.000.000 times, ten years ago.
Their will always be people who are easily satisfied and settle for less, wankers like you. Wanker.
like I said before…
I just got fuckin’ chased off with a chainsaw
Then he took the chainsaw, bit the fuckin’ blades off
Ate the blades, stuck a baseball in a slingshot
Then he aimed at his own face, let the thing pop
Took his eye out, picked it up and played ping pong
Then he played ping pong with his own ding dong

Yes Mad Max, because I’m sure Em is REALLY doing EVERYTHING he says in his verses and isn’t exagerrating. How many times has Kim died already?
@El Rosado
I never said he does REALL EVERYTHING (!) he reps about in real life.
But fact is he is realler about his emotions and life than 99,9% of the rappers out there. Dude self-reflects heavily on this album.
Even on the Bagpipes from Baghdad, in which he isnt only clowning on Mariah, Nick and Luis Miguel, but mainly himself.
You just got to look passed the humor and sarcasm he uses.
I’d really like to see a review for this now….
I’m one of those…where…you can spit about one topic for days….but as long as it’s done well, it’s all good.
Clipse = coke rap
Jeezy = trap rap
Eminem = psycho rap
thought yall knew this already?
Where did all of these unheard of Eminem die-hard Stans come from? All dispatched by Interscope/Em on all the top hip-hop blogs to do even more promotion for him?
Anyways, for each irrelevant Eminem verse that cites “multi-syllabic” bars as the redeeming point, I could easily post the same (much more coherent) material from an article such as AZ or anyone else who flows similarly. Alliteration is fantastic as long as it still makes sense. I don’t care much for playing ping pong with a dudes dong that is as large as king kong.
yo seriously TSS needs to stop hatin on relapse.. the album is dope. period. if rolling stone gives it 4 outta 5 then im gonna take their word for it cuz im an asshole like that and really… a post about artwork. i feel like you guys are just doin this to get people arguing in the comment section just for shits n giggles which is pretty fucking stupid..
and another thing.. i know we all love cheering for the underdog, but CAM’RON?!?!? fuck that b.. cam’ron fell off a long time ago and its gonna take more than cookies n apple juice for me to start listening to his shit again.. y’all are bein a bunch of SILKY (HOMOS)
@OneLove1 A.K.A. It’s the God…God
“Where did all of these unheard of Eminem die-hard Stans come from? All dispatched by Interscope/Em on all the top hip-hop blogs to do even more promotion for him?”
Stans? Come on.. We just like Em’s music, that don’t make us a Stan.
And I am here allready for a long time, I just dont comment that often.
And its obvious people feel like me and comment about it, because Em is the biggest selling hiphopproduct next to Pac. We millions strong!
“nyways, for each irrelevant Eminem verse that cites “multi-syllabic” bars as the redeeming point, I could easily post the same (much more coherent) material from an article such as AZ or anyone else who flows similarly. Alliteration is fantastic as long as it still makes sense. I don’t care much for playing ping pong with a dudes dong that is as large as king kong.”
That’s because you have trouble thinking outside of the box, Em is too complex for y’all simple minded people. You want to have it served in a logical way, easy for you to dig out; 1 + 1 = 2 and not 11.
Anyway, AZ vocabulary isnt as rich as Em’s.
And allthough his rhymes are coherent, they simple.
And yes, I listen to AZ too.
Currency….with their played out rhymes, lying about selling 2 grams of cheap drugs.
==============
Curren$y aint a trap rapper…
oh I’ve heard Em’s shtick before too(along with his flow)…Pharoahe Monch, Company Flow.
it possible to have complexity and coherency..Lupe Fiasco
And stop assuming so much. it really hinders your argument.
@onelove1: that was pure comedy, hilarious.
Album is honestly good but not worth a 4 and half year wait. His cadence and delivery are absolutely on point just as they were in his past albums but i really hoped he would come through with a little more substance. But that is only my opinion.
I haven’t even bothered to giving “Crime Pays” a solid listen yet. I’m too busy with “Relapse.” It’s been on a loop since it leaked. Doesn’t mean I’ll buy it though…
What! I’m broke.
I feel bad for you that think that Relapse isn’t anything short of very good. You just don’t know real rap unfortunately. Stick to Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Cam’s new album (which is awful).
No one is a “Stan” either, just people telling the truth.
But if the “Stans” are out in full force, what does that say about the people seriously getting behind Cam’s latest drivel?
I won’t even bother with the dumb asses saying that Eminem is “fake” when it comes to rapping about the drugs he does. You DO realize he really did have a drug problem, right? The death of his best friend Proof drove him to that.
You enjoy your raps about fake thugs that have never really been in a hood before and talk about how many cars they have. I bet it makes you sprout a few hairs on your chest and feel like a man.
that camron album dissapointed me…
wtf did they go and ruin i hate my job for? that shit sounds kind of cheezy now.
relapse caught me off gaurd…i figured this shit was gonna be cheeks but the more i listen the more i dig it.
I aint a em fan and havent been since the second album but good music is good music some of yall got that hateraide on tap today.
seriously that camron joint is a huge let down.
@Chris
it’s all hip hop man. Just cause you find something a little more entertaining than the next man doesnt mean they don’t know “hip hop”. It’s just a diff perspective, one mans trash is another man’s treasure.
When I first heard some of the tracks on from Relapse I was like …WTF? But then when I heard them in the order (I think) they are suppose to go in and actually listened to the album its probably one of the most unique rap albums to come out in a while. Sonically its great. Em’s flow and rhymes and the beats are almost melting with each other…to me its like he is rapping to show off that he can rhyme out of his mind both in the technical sense and in the content sense. It’s almost like he’s free-styling or just “1st taking” whatever comes up…to show he can.
His mind is all over the place..because he’s on drugs.. not literally on the tracks but the theme of the CD is a Relapse.. and its like he’s going in and out of characters on the tracks.. Like at one point he’s talking about some personal issues ..like he’s coming down from the high.. then goes nuts again on the next track as if he just got his fix again.
The idea of the album is to almost take you on a journey through the mind of a man who is relapsing not only back into drugs but into a mad-man character, and at the same time is fighting to find himself. Starting with 3a.m., leading to stuff like Insane and Same Song and Dance ending off with tracks Dejavu and Beautiful, and finally ending with Underground just to leave you wondering enough about the next part of the tale…
This not an album that will have a lot of radio play type tracks although the beats are nice..but as an entire concept album its pretty good. This is not a “bump in your car” track laced CD. Its like horror flick/ drug trip in audio format.
So when Em dropped off the cd to paul he said there’S 2 cd’s does that mean we have only heard 1???
For all the fools out there saying Eminem is talking about fake drugs, fake killing sprees, etc…you’ve obviously missed the point of the album. First off, Eminem did all the drugs, in fact if you listened to Deja Vu you’d realize he even OD’d in 2007 so that point is stupid. As for the killing sprees, Eminem is metaphorically talking about the feelings he had while on pills. In 3 AM you can hear after the lyrics are over the pill bottles saying, “Refill Us”. So that point is null and void. Lastly, nobody can say that the rhymes and flow aren’t there, and therefore have lost this argument.
I’ve been an Eminem fan for a long time, used to think he was the best lyricist ever until I found Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, and this is not my favorite album of his. However, I still prefer it over any of the mainstream fake gangster shit that is out today. I can at least identify with themes and concepts of this song, unlike that crazy thug shit.
Everybody just has very high expectations for Em, if this was any new rapper people would be buzzing all over it. So quiet down, if you don’t dig it, the navigate away from the website and listen to what you enjoy.
Finally, Deja Vu is incredible story-telling. And Beautiful is one of the most… beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Listen to the concept, EVERYONE can Identify with it.
stans riding out on this post..damn!
damn….quick to judge…lol.
*bumps a mix of Crime Pays and Relapse*
*chillaxes*
I dont think Em gives a shit what any of us think…
I dunno what people expected…Em wake up and be Jay, Nas, the second coming of insert “favorite rapper”. Em didn’t give you his best album…cue the end of the world. What he did do was drop an album that has Slim Shady written all over it, the same style that’s on Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP, the same style/persona that brought him to be relevant in Hip Hop. While it ain’t no Marshall Mathers Lp it sure is just as good the Slim Shady LP.
I think what people should be saying is…”At least it isn’t another Encore” Why is everybody buggin??
basically ur all wrong the is only one king of rap and it is eminem the art work is awesome as it all tells a story and the biggest bit that u should be judging is what ur listening too but then again youll do that wrong the album is awesome its amazing i havent stopped listening to, but ive been the same with ever single one of his albums!!
I have to agree that most of the younger peeps making comments here are used to repetitive rhymes and materialistic minded rappers. If you look at some of the greats you will see lyricists separate themselves from this redundancy. Some people like to listen to rap and hip hop only for the beats and not for the story telling that is the foundation for true talented albums. If you stop changing the song after only a minute of listening to it you will hear the song making more sense because eminem tends to leave you guessing what’s going to happen next or in the end like (STAN). The songs that I thought were the most clever among many are “Stay Wide Awake, and Same Song and Dance.” Relapse has found a place amongst my collection. Don’t go with the hype of what everyone else is listening to or they’re opinions. Make your own judgments and respect everyone’s decisions of what they want to listen to.
LOL……luk at u h8ers…..tryin so hard to h8 the “highest selling artist of the decadE….u ppl probably hv lady gaga’s picture in ur underwear….:0..eminem lovers…eminem h8ers….hit me up….asid12345678@gmail.com
