Dude was smart enough to cover a CLASSIC underground Texas song, DJ Screw’s June 27th. If you haven’t heard the original, you wouldn’t understand what that song meant to Texas hip hoppers and Screw heads across the delta over ten years ago.
Texas is an extremely hard market to tap musically. We love the stuff from @round the way, but we don’t usually embrace outsiders (Louisiana, being the exception of course).
He has the potential to breakthrough in the dirty. He’s from Canada and isn’t confined to sound like any particular region. If he were from anywhere within the states, folks would be ready to pigeonhole him.
I ain’t with all the harmonizing. I don’t care about the Young $ affiliation. I don’t care that he’s a capable actor. Just dope music with focus & passion, as well as love & respect for the art form & fans.

If he did what Will Smith did back in the late 80s and the 90s and make music with genuine mainstream appeal then I would say yes he has a chance to break through.
