It’s very easy to sleep on this record, although it’s really not advisable. Especially if you’re a Dilla fan. Personally, I’m not the hugest Yancey stan, but I quite enjoyed it. Classic and rare Dilla samples from the original vinyl, arranged and mixed by Shoes and mastered by Rhettmatic.
I think the CD is sold out, so cop it on iTunes, give it a spin and have a great weekend.

Man…I didn’t even know this had dropped. I remember LC mentioning it a few months back but I had forgotten about it.
I listened to the first track. Its pretty dope. The only complaints I have about it are:
1) there is too much downtime between each track. I like how he builds the sample and blends it into Dilla’s version but I think it would be more effective if the sample came right after the previous song…kinda like that last Girl Talk album
2) this would be great on vinyl but I don’t see any evidence online that it will be released in that format
Finally, can anyone who has heard the whole thing tell me if any of the other Phat Kat beats that Dilla did appear on here? Those were some of my favorite beats from him: “Nasty Aint It”, “Cold Steel”, “My Old Label”…sick!
