“Can’t Forget New Jersey…”
AUDIO By Gotty™ on May 3, 2009 at 7:35 pmUnless you’re from there, New Jersey’s contributions to Hip-Hop generally get overlooked and/or overshadowed by the Big Apple. To most, NJ begins & unfortunately ends with Redman, Naughty & Latifah. But as this compilation sounds out, there’s more to the forgotten land than just a chosen few. DJ Brownbum goes deep in the crates with a few contributions from The Custodian of Records for Vol. 3 of Jersey Radio.

2. Queen Latifah - Princess of The Posse
3. Word of Mouth - Coast to Coast
4. Ministers of Black - Step Into My Office (RIP Tony D)
5. Redman - Freestyle
6. Redman - Funkarama
7. Milkbone - How Yah Like It
8. Ready Ta Role - Drug Game

damn, the title for this post made me think of that one Queen Latifah song off the “New Jersey Drive” soundtrack…it has this hella laid-back retrospective feel to it…but i digress…
this looks like a dope comp, thanks
NO YZ or PRT? Beggars cant be choosers.
RIP Tony D
No Tony D?
Artifacts, Real Live, Joe Budden and those producer dudes 3 Boys From Newark (Rheji Burrell’s crew).
Then of course you got The Fugees, The Outsiderz, PRT, YZ, Diezel Don & Guv’na, Chino XL and of course a certain Just Blaze.
Q-Tip’s beat for Gangsta Bitch is hella dope classic shit
so is that backwards-sounding bassline for Not Gonna Be Able To It
damn, 3 head-cracking beats in a row.
Marley Marl’s descending bassline is very catchy
^ my bad, K-Def if you’re keeping track
Yo that’s crazy, after I made my comment today on the Hottest in the Hood remix I thought about my home state [JERSEY!!!!] and our contributions to Hip Hop, we definitely get over looked but I mean Redman, Naughty by Nature, Queen Latifah, Ice-T (i know he was only born there but still), Budden (well he kind of sucks as an artist but can spit bars for days), etc.
Jersey!!!!!!! (973)
@ Teef
Don’t forget Mad Izm… When the bass drops… OH!!! © Dice Clay
Nice comp.
I’m suspecting PRT and some of the others were on the previous volumes.
the 2nd half of this mix is better than the 1st, w/ the exception being Reggie Noble
lol @ that house music sounding shit by Twin Hype…i feel like busting a move now
*does Ed Lover Dance*
and it’s a wrap!
900 Number will NEVER get old. I swear I could have that shit on loop 24/7 cuz that shit is funny to me.
If I could have all the speakers in the world play the 900 Number simultaneously & have everyone do the Ed Lover Dance too, that would be ill & I’d be happy
I thought that there would be some new cats on this like Ransom or Nucci Reyo.
Just had to post this classic Artifacts remix since we are talking about NJ here…

“…That’s when I’m smackin you because it’s easy
Like Lionel Richie, your whole style is bitchy
Switch me, mix me, somebody get me
Don’t let me rip out my clothes like Bill Bixby
Rippin’ the microphone ’til I’m motherfuckin’ sixty
Smokin the indo, by the window, it’s sticky…”
yeah, OED, KRS stuck his foot in when he did that beat for Mad Izm
I can make a better mixtape for jerz….
C’mon, he could have done a whole lot more with this tape!
^ but are you making one?
It’s Vol. 3. I’ll see if I can track down the previous 2.
Im not even from New Jersey, but If I were “Jersery” by Queen Latifah would be my anthem…. check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVsTzYT9Sco
Biz is from Jerz?!?!?! Always thought he was from LI… learn something new everyday…
RMF…
Just watched that joint for the 1st time yesterday. Got to be the worst of the genre.
A.V. Biz is not from Jersey but on a beatbox he says I can’t Forget New Jersey after naming the NYC boroughs. Queen Latifah sampled this for her song Jersey
Im late on this, but Treach should be in everybody’s Top 20. Seriously. Go back and check the body of work–the flow, the wordplay, the styles… dude was a monster.
They dropped anthems. wall to wall, burbs to the block anthems. And treach had a run from about 91-96 that was just… heat. even 19 Naughty Nine was dope.
Where is the Strong Island Mixtapes… ???

Can’t get JVC Force out of my head now!!
Another legendary New Jersey producer is Nick Wiz, laced everybody from Rakim, Cella Dwellas to Mad Skillz. His drum patterns always come the hardest, check the link…
