Words By Jason Hortillas
It was inevitable. Activision, video game house of the world wide smash Guitar Hero has now added the turntable to their arsenal of “fake instruments.” DJ Hero is set to drop for the company’s Fall lineup.
The company’s groundbreaking DJ Hero expands Guitar Hero’s signature social gaming to all-new consumers with the addition of diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. Introducing an all-new innovative turntable controller, DJ Hero transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world’s most exciting artists and DJs.
Initially I thought to myself, “Oh great. Now you’ll see celebs looking corny trying to scratch like JMJ.”
But I see a silver lining. With Guitar Hero, I came to realize that all the kids who played the game got an unintentional primer on Classic Rock, Punk, Metal and Grunge. With the turntablist game barely gasping for air and with the youth needing an injection of some Hip-Hop 101, I hope DJ Hero has the same results. When a twelve-year-old can build on Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe” with his Pops after playing Guitar Hero. I can only hope the same for a Hip-Hop discussion.
Guitar Hero® Announces Fall Lineup Featuring Groundbreaking DJ Hero™ [Activision]

As long as they put they right type of songs on the games, then it should be good.
YESSSSS!!!!
Now I just next a sax for “Blues Hero”
And an autotuner for “Sing Villain”
If this is done right, DJ Premier’s wallet is set for some time to come…
A good point about it schooling some people on some classic DJ cuts. That aside though, I can’t see this game being as enjoyable as the Guitar Hero series is.

Don’t think that the execs at Activision aren’t reading this and thinking of a way around that, which would be shitty. Companies are trying to “trim the fat” all around, you can bet that they will try their best to avoid having to pay the extra expense of licensing or using copyrighted material. With that said, I hope the creative team behind this project realize it would be a disservice to NOT use any original songs by legendary/seminal DJs, and also that “tweaking” any original source material to avoid having to pay those artists would be wack.
sounds dope…i never got into rockband/guitar hero – im not much of a rocker when i would get the invites id say ” ill be there when they make rap hero” – this maybe as good as it gets.
The track list so far is all classic hip hop, like pre-90s, which is excepted. I just hope it doesn’t produce a whole bunch of off-brand, wanna be’s like Geetar Hero did.
Yeah Now I can get my Jam Master Jam on, to my Sister’s Joe Perry

I really wanted to play more Jimi when it came to Guitar Hero, a Jimi Henrix Experience Hero > Metaliica/KISS Hero or whatev…ugh
LC’s gonna have fun beating Grandmaster Flash in this game
this could be hot, but with all the pseudo turntable equip out these days, i wonder… and especially if they don’t load up on classic stuff from Premo, Rob Swift, Flash, etc…
As long as they get some top notch DJ’s as consultants this should be a great idea
I hear LC is already at work putting a bug in the game that will have GrandMaster Flash DJing ith Rihanna’s panties on his head. lol
i wonder if they are going to pick songs with frequent use of the word nigga
Where’s the mixer? If you got to count beats it might be a lesson for some of these Serato DJ’s too.
