I know Tanya Morgan.

I was one of those hooked ever on their music since 2006′s Moonlighting when I stumbled upon them & The Strange Fruit Project. I was asked to review both The Healing & Moonlighting around the same time & I had the hardest time mentally separating the two trios. I liked The Healing; I loved Moonlighting and it stuck with me. Since then, Donwill, Von Pea & Ilyas have made it a point to continually release music, making their presence heard & felt as a collective and as individuals via mixtapes, EPs and performing.

When I see this “virtual tour” to the fictional Brooklynati, I love it even though I don’t favor videos & such too heavily. I’m drawn to innovative ideas & they hit the nail on the head here. With subtle homages on their map such as Yancey Park and Questo’s Instrument Shop, they literally mapped out the vision of this album.

Here, check this portion of the press release for a better explanation…

Tanya Morgan knows that moving can be a big decision. So when the trio of Von Pea, Donwill, and Ilyas ask you to move with them to Brooklynati on May 12, they know it’s only right to give a glance into the city they now call home. From Yancey Park to Questo’s Instrument Shop, this video will help you to explore all that the beautiful city of Brooklynati has to offer. For more information on local events and citywide attractions, please visit www.Brooklynati.com.

Brooklynati releases on 5.12 via Interdependent Media. Membership has it’s privileges I guess because I’ve already heard the album & it is indeed good (more on that later). Just know that Brooklynati is going to be one of those places you’ll want to visit repeatedly.
