When Crew Love’s come up, I’m usually too wrapped up in actually putting them together or some other task and not able to contribute. That as well as the fact that I feel like I bombard readers with my playlist on a daily anyways. In the comments of the CL post, I did mention that one of the songs that’s getting burn in my rotation but probably not worthy of its own post would have to be Ozzy’s “Walk On Water.”
The other one would be Sophie B. Hawkins “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover.” No distinct reasons and, even as a Daily Funk, this still doesn’t “fit” the context of the routine around these parts. Yet with me, it’s not always about what it sounds like but how I feel when I hear it. There are days when rap literally dries me out, leaving me longing for something with a charge behind it. Here, it’s the rise & fall of the song, how it hovers at a low volume & pace before bubbling over to effusion at the chorus. With the build up, I’m in my seat, moving & antsy, just waiting for the opportune moment to yell “DAMN!” right along with her. And with two listens, my day is energized.

Sophie B. Hawkins – “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover”
So that’s that. Thanks for listening. Moving right along to our next scheduled installment.

My ex-wife used to play this sing this song when we were just getting to know each other…I was at UT and she lived in austin. I have fond memories of this song…her crazy ass asked me to move in with her while blasting this. She had eclectic music taste you know how Austin TX is good song.
Great song!
I was in love with this chick during High School lol.
I always feel an obligation to choose a Hip-Hop album for the “Crew Love” pieces (which I’m honored to even be a part of) but my playlists are way more eclectic. I’ll definitely try to reflect that in future posts.

funny. the directions are write whatever you’re listening to. I don’t think too many of us listen to solely Hip-Hop. All rap & no other play makes for a dull boy hehe.
i saw the title of the post in my reader and said no way. sophie b?
yep.
i like this song too.
^ wasn’t sure if I’d be burned @ the stake in effigy or if there’d be those in agreement. Whew! lol
@ Gotty
I know, but I always try to pick something cats might not have heard but something everybody can rock with.
Plus, I couldn’t imagine the feedback if I threw up some Big Audio Dynamite or some Fishbone or some other equally obscure band/artist that I’ve run across.
I’ll definitely try & do better with adding some favorites from other genre’s next go round..
Really? ©SNL
i’m pretty sure everybody who’s heard this song more than once sings along with the “damns”…shit is too funny
This over-hyped warmed-ver heffa… slept her way around the world with her “i’m omnisexual” butt. I’m actually friends with one her ex’s (from my NYC days.) This chick has a horrible reputation in the Hamptons, if you catch my drift.
Now if ya’ll wanna talk dope but crazy ass white girls with some skills, Let’s talk Ani DiFranco. That broad can write a tune and a half when she’s on her game.
LOL @ Her having the shirt
