When Crew Love’s come up, I’m usually too wrapped up in actually putting them together or some other task and not able to contribute. That as well as the fact that I feel like I bombard readers with my playlist on a daily anyways. In the comments of the CL post, I did mention that one of the songs that’s getting burn in my rotation but probably not worthy of its own post would have to be Ozzy’s “Walk On Water.”

The other one would be Sophie B. Hawkins “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover.” No distinct reasons and, even as a Daily Funk, this still doesn’t “fit” the context of the routine around these parts. Yet with me, it’s not always about what it sounds like but how I feel when I hear it. There are days when rap literally dries me out, leaving me longing for something with a charge behind it. Here, it’s the rise & fall of the song, how it hovers at a low volume & pace before bubbling over to effusion at the chorus. With the build up, I’m in my seat, moving & antsy, just waiting for the opportune moment to yell “DAMN!” right along with her. And with two listens, my day is energized.

Sophie B. Hawkins – “Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover”

So that’s that. Thanks for listening. Moving right along to our next scheduled installment.
