If this song were wine it would need to breathe for hours after you uncorked it. It would need time to settle on your eardrums and brainwaves before you could pick out the intricacies of its flavor. And oh does it ever have flavor.

Kings Go Forth is deeply rooted in the greats: overriding tones of Curtis, an earthy start with Isaac and a clean finish with Marvin. What’s the vintage? Oh, I’d say a 1970, ’71 California blend. Ah but no, we’re talking about present day Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Haircut told me this two year old 45 record has gone for upwards of $300 on eBay…and that was more than a year ago. Kings Go Forth seems to strike a balance between the old dusty man who has a living room full of Staxx records, the 20-something hipster with greasy hair and dirty Chucks, and the Dilla-centric DJ snapping his neck in the corner.

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for the past two years and I’m still not tired of it. It’s perfectly executed. Feels good to know there are people still making ridiculously good music out there; music that is built to sustain the rip-tide of digital downloadability, slide right past instant gratification and stand strong on Mount Everlasting.
