Looks like MTV decided to embrace that “M” in their moniker and will start airing *gasp* music videos again.

From 3 to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, it will show music videos, news, interviews and performances, harking back to the network’s origins as a 24-hour home for music videos. The network is bringing back “Unplugged,” its series of acoustic performances by artists.

I’m a little saddened by this because 3 am was the time I could catch a random episode of Making The Band or T.I.’s Road To Redemption after getting home from the gym.

Not that I’m against them airing videos again, because I love having them playing in the background on low while I’m navigating on the laptop. I’m not too sure what MTV’s logic behind this move is. They already play reruns during this time frame, so it can’t be a cost-cutting maneuver. We’re all accustomed over here to watching whatever we want, when we want on blogs, YouTube, Worldstar or where ever else. And I’m guessing a majority of the people who’d actually want the see these videos will be either sleep or heading off to work and school during the viewing. However, doing what seems to make sense isn’t in vogue among corporate America right now, so there’s no sense in holding MTV to higher expectations than anyone else, right?

Plus Unplugged is coming back and that should be worth something.
