This post is two-fold.
I was cleaning & organizing the closet when I decided to take a pic of these. I mentioned before that I was going to dumb out with these. Only one pair was purchased @ retail price. The rest, well below. If I can score one more, I should be good to go for the next decade or until Nike decides to bring them back again. Why the multiples? Because they go with everything and…it’s just a bad habit I have. I do it with everything, but more on that for another post.
While “I Got A Habit” fits as a title for the picture, Cool C’s “Glamorous Life” was more of my jam. But in my book, Steady B. > Cool C. for Philly cats not named Schooly D. When I was young, I used to practice wearing my hat sideways (albeit with a disconnected pager attached) just like Steady did in the “Serious” video. The dance moves too.
Looking @ the cover of Let The Hustlers Play, I think I’ve spotted a source for some of Mikey Rock’s style cues.

i know aher sounds alot like em, i know “i love college” was a waste of 3 min of your life, but every other sing i have heard is good. the boy is consistent, and he might shock everyone with how good this album will be. 6 songs i have heard have repaet value, and honestly i don’t do that normally. the kid is talented.

As much as I love the black/gum combo. Not sure I’d be willing to pay full retail for ‘em again. There’s something about the build quality, or the lack there of, that doesn’t sit well with me. Compared to other uptowns I have, they feel sorta… cheap.
I’ve also seen a pair of black/gum premiums that have a combo of suede, butter soft leather, & patent croc print. However as crazy as they are I still can’t bring myself to drop $130 on ‘em.

Fully agree that the leather on the GR’s was weak but fuck it. Rock, not stock. I’ll roll thru a pr & go to the next.
Different strokes, for different folks… Usually I’d agree that he mix of materials would make ‘em a little busy, but after seeing them in person. All I kept thinking was they go hard as hell. If they drop under $100, I’d actually consider coppin a few pairs.
As far as the regular kicks go. I’m usually of a similar mindset, in that if I like something I buy a few pairs. That way I can keep rockin ‘em long after they’ve sold out. And there in lies the problem. These joints don’t feel like they’re made to last more than a few weeks. I’ve heard people complain about the diminishing quality of Nike shoes. And I usually just brush it off as some sneaker geek urban legend type shit. However this time I definitely noticed it. They’re probably not as bad as I think they are, but it’s enough to keep me from paying retail for ‘em. If I see ‘em on sale or something I’ll pick up another pair. Otherwise I just can’t do it…

Nah, it’s been that way since maybe 02-03, esp w/GRs. If I was still into buying them for reasons other than to wear, I’d prolly be pissed @ the shoddy quality Nike has been dealing w/. But it’s only shoddy in comparison to when they used good thick leather, esp when they used the bumpy face leather (tumbled).
But on a regular day, I throw on a pair of these to kick around in. Been rocking one pair since they dropped & they’ll hold til summer easy. After that, next pair lol
