It’s something every Gang Starr fan must experience to realize it’s OVER…
No longer satisfied with working alongside one of Hip-Hop’s greatest soundmen, Guru 8.0 (as he’s constantly evolving and upgrading) collaborates exclusively with “Super-Producer” Solar and their latest creation has arrived in the form of…what else?
AUTO-TUNE.

Download — Guru – “Fastlane” (Produced By “Super-Producer” Solar)
As advocates of the Hip-Hop culture, The Crew jotted down our intial reactions of this malarkey to see if they mirror yours after you hear for the first (and hopefully) last time.
K1ng: I thought I was trippin’. Guru? Really? Couldn’t be. He was quoted saying:
“Solar and I have produced three classic albums (Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures, Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 and The Timebomb / Back To The Future). It was necessary for us to follow-up with another classic to keep real hip-hop alive.”
Delusional does not even begin to describe it. It’s like they get on the internet and want to know why they have to shoot Bin Laden to win a free iPod if they wanna check their e-mail…It’s just sad.
Jason Hortillas: This further emphasizes that Solar is the Sammy Hagar of Hip-Hop. In all seriousness, who tracked this though? Cause this sounds like all the shit demos I used to get when I did Open Mics. It’s truly the music equivalent to 2 Girls, 1 Cup.
David D: Ugh…that’s like herpes wrapped in a shit sammich. This is Primo’s face listening to Guru’s new track.
MZ: At least Mary Mary has the great gospel as their defense. What’s your excuse Guru? Solar’s beats make you feel like you’ve just looked directly into a solar eclipse and your voice makes watching paint dry an event.
Devin Chanda: I can’t stop laughing! This shit is too much! I spit out my iced-tea. Do y’all see that cover??? Stop rapping…buy a gas station or something. It’s OVER!
And the people of Twitter weren’t too kind either:
Tanya Morgan’s DonWill: Yo. Worst. Guru. Song. Ever…wow… can we let this be the nail in the Auto-Tune coffin? pls?
Rapper Big Pooh: Damn Guru….say it ain’t so… I’m late…Guru using Auto-Tune for his new joint, “Fastlane”…Auto-Tuning for they whole joint….wowsers…
Outasight: That was the worst shit i have ever heard in my life. When I used to record in Bedstuy
I used to hear the worst gangster BS ever but this has it beat — EASILY.
Biggga: Guru needs Jesus and T-Pain’s phone number. SMH @ the audio swine flu Guru is trying to pass off as music. Guru must have kissed Roxy Reynolds on the mouth. LOL no Murs. It sounds like a cry for help, LOL. He was thinking Primo, I don’t need no Stinking Primo. Boy was he wrong.
Guru 8.0: Lost & Found, the 8th classic, real “Hip-Hop”, 5 Cig installment of the Guru catalog releases May 19th, 2009. Get there two days early to avoid the lines.

Love it. The post not the song. OBVIOUSLY.
Wow.
Hated it.
I don’t understand what premier has to do with his ability to/to not write shitty lyrics.
^
Your only as good as what you have to spit to.
wow this song really sucks ass
i dnt blame solar like some people i think he’s ok he jus aint premo no where near premo actually an premo beats were perfect for guru’s(really perfect for anybody) but guru stop it this song is horrible if i was u i’d jus tour off my old shit forget it even big pooh had the balls to say it – this song is why auto tune needs to b licensed for only certain people
Lost & Found.
He Lost credibility
and Found Auto-Tune.
Guru 8.0 needs a damn reboot
This shit hurt my feelings, b.
TC put a download link, LOL
19 people accessed the Sharebee link, & 7 people downloaded it on Zshare….LOLOLOLOL
Darkness. R.I.P ‘Moment of Truth’.
There should be an age limit on autotune. How old is this nicca, like 45? Really, b? That’s what’s popping in the retirement homes now?
smh
Ladies & gentleman, please participate in a moment of silence with me. We have lost one of our hip hop veterans once again. Not to drugs or the morgue, but to a foe much worse.
*moment*
Thank you. Guru, you will be missed among the hip-hop community. You brought constant fire with Preem on Gang Starr records and soul with Solar on the Jazzmatazz series. But we have lost you to the evils of auto-tune. The delusions of grandeur have taken your mind, and you have been lost. It is possible that you may recover, but we have almost lost hope. Goodbye.
while i’ll always love guru (…) for his OG Gangstarr ish and Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 & 2 he honestly lost some of my respect for fonkin with Young Guru over the name and with this he lost almost all of it
smh…yet another reason to hate Auto-Tune…i thought we had all of them pegged but every week someone disappoints.
I listened to the song before I read the rest of the article.. You need a warning label. This song is fucked in the ass with no vaseline (fuck a pause, it is what it is)
After being admitted at the ER the nurse said, “You are the fifth person to come in here with bleeding eardrums after listening to that ‘Fastlane’ track. You ought to sue for punitive damages.”
“When Ur Heroe Falls”.
when your hero falls from grace
all fairy tales r uncovered
myths exposed and pain magnified
the greatest pain discovered
u taught me 2 be strong
but im confused 2 c u so weak
u said never 2 give up
and it hurts 2 c u welcome defeat
when ure hero falls so do the stars
and so does the perception of tomorrow
without my hero there is only
me alone 2 deal with my sorrow
your heart ceases 2 work
and your soul is not happy at all
what r u expected 2 do
when ure only hero falls
-2pac
Seems appropriate for this moment.
This is a dream right?
I liked the track.
It gave me chills when I heard it… broke out in a cold sweat n’ everything…
*scratches chin*
…oh yeah, then there was that pig that coughed on me at the petting zoo.
First The Fat Boys Break Up . . . . .
*leaves post to check the gucci man track*
nope, wait. That one sucks too. What’s next 2Pac with autotune?
“This is the newest shit I ever wrote”
Fuck this shit. I can’t cry this early in the day…
without autotuned version is needed
Man when I get home I am uplaoding Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 & 2 and all the Classic Gangstarr I can get my hands on. I don’t know what happened between Primer and Guru; that would make Guru cut off his nose to spite his face. Or maybe I should say cut off his ears to make this horrible music. The thing is I don’t think Solaar is a bad producer, he is just caught up following a 1st ballot hall of fame producer. Guru hasn’t made it easier for Solaar with his talk of Solaar is the ‘New Primo’. It is sad to see/hear Guru following trends when for years he was an MC that started trends and strived for creativity and originality.
I can see my abuelita’s apartment…
/Got Nathan…
just like Guru.
RMF…
yo, that cant be the real cover?

TERRIBLE!
You know? Maybe he should work with multiple producers. Give Solar a chance to breathe. Have us see what they’re capable of separately.
Oh to hell with this, Premier! Talk to this man and get back together!
And SHOOT the cover designer! As a GD major, this upsets me.
Sucker be playin themselves for the mass appeal…
i disagree with all of you, this new album’s hot.none of you even mentioned any other track, you’re obviously were against it before you ever heard it.what, Guru’s not allowed to use auto tune now?…and the the person or people who posted this claptrap “article” or “review”or what ever the hell you want to call something that trys to pull the wool over people’s eyes, are just filled with too much hate to be taken seriously.like they don’t want Guru to sell records,to sell out concerts,to have a career.it’s despicable.is that how hip hop fans treat their teachers?this cat dosen’t drink, doesn’t smoke, is a vegetarian, now you’re gonna cut out?is everyone so afraid for Dj Premier’s career that they have to hate on Guru?let’s hear a track by track articulate review of something if you want to be taken seriously, these comments are a joke-peace for now
oops i meant to say ,”you obviously were against it before you ever heard it” my bag(that’s the way we used to say it)…by the way that isn’t even the cover, what kind of snowjob is this?-peace
oops ,and i put in an extra “the “before “the people who posted this claptrap”-peace
oh and i meant to put that ” ” ” one step closer to the “the”…haters!…-peace
really you all are so maudlin about Guru using autotune.i guess maybe he has to fill out a permission slip to his crying “fans”when ever he wants to do something.all this talk about about fallen heroes.give me a break.that Tupac song has NOTHING to do with Guru.Guru didn’t fall off.looks like some of the “fans” are having some issues though.and someone had the gall to mention Guru’s age, like maybe he shouldn’t be doing his thing anymore,he shouldn’t be doing it his whole life.maybe other people don’t have the longevity that Guru has.that’s yet another reason to hate?you “fans” are twisted people, you’re acting twisted on this page anyway.but i never give up on anyone-good luck and peace
i actually felt sick the first time i heard this
no you didn’t…is that your sad attempt to get some friends, getting on some pitiful hater bandwagon?don’t try to whitewash this album,it won’t work…
LOL actually the song sucks, but feel free to defend Guru to the death of his career
id rather listen to T-Pain, at least when he uses auto-tune its catchy
Is bluespark solar?
The 10 things that shouldn’t have happened…
1 – Guru has new material (excited)
2 – Find new album (even more excited)
3 – Read review on this website (before listening)
4 – Listened to it any way (foolish)
5 – Read the posts from everyone (a public execution)
6 – Laughed – How can DJ Permier be compared to anyone (gobsmacked)
7 – Listened to the album again (silenced)
8 – Read the posts again (bamboozled)
9 – Laughed harder, in complete disbelief (delusional)
10 – Asked God why?
Thanks for your contribution to music Mr Elam.
This is GOD AWFUL. Solar you should kill yourself for producing this garbage and letting an Icon rock this…fuck is wrong witcha head…Guru thought you had a head on your shoulders. You bounced on one of the pioneers in the game for this clown…
is everyone so afraid for Dj Premier’s career that they have to hate on Guru? <—- BAHAHAHAHA you CLOWN. are you kidding me people dont even know who Solar is aside from all the bullshit he been pullin with Guru's hospital experience and surgery. Solar sounds like some two cent weak as producer who just cant keep up with the big dogs…hang up the beat making gear little boy go take up basket weaving or something..Primo could never make another beat again and Solar go on for 20 years and not be a blip on Primo's scale…fuck outta here!
Is Solar Nigerian?
Seriously. He writes like a Nigerian prince has $10,000,000 for you email.
THIS SHIT IS TRASH. THIS SOLAR DUDE IS USING SITUATION GURU FOR MIDEA GAIN . HES THE MOST HATED DUDE IN HIPHOP RIGHT NOW
Just saying. Because bluespark is DEFINITELY Solar. He writes the same way on all the blogs, defending his work when people say it suck’s a crocodile’s cock.
It’s definitely him, and he writes (have a look, he really does) like an email from a Nigerian army general’s wife who wants to split $10,000,000 with you if you send your bank accounts.
Yeah, and something else. I’ve seen this shit before.
Solar’s straight disconnect from reality. Look at the interviews on youtube. He has his reality hose on ‘off’. But you half close your eyes and yes, he’s quite right: Guru and Solar are the next stage in the evolution of hip hop. And then you open them again and you think ‘oh get the fuck out’.
I’ve seen this before and it’s straight up Nigerian / Beninois when the scam goes up to the next level and you start to believe you are who really say you are.
Money money crazyman crossover.
Who makes SHIT MUSIC.
Solar should get ready to pack his bags and leave US…heard a lot of talk in NYC lately , lets just say that people are looking for him …
Man, this is something thats truly hard to believe.
Solar dun fkd up everything he had with this stunt he pulled.
He has now lost the little respect he once had…
You are now hated by the Hip-Hop religion…
it’s a shame that Guru hasnt made a decent song since 2002. There is not even one song that sounds even decent that has been produced by solar. not even one. its sad and it sucks….
That album cover reminds me of a Kool Keith cover where hes clowning on the “industry is wack”. First and foremost, Guru is NOT allowed to autotune, sorry. Gurus goddamn signature is his voice!!! Whatever happened to:
Because I don’t need gimmicks
Gimme a fly beat and I’m all in it
waaaaak, death of autotune and death of guru right here.
i remember once on one of the GangStarr Foundation releases Guru said all you need is a fly voice to get the people to listen to your lyrics and now hes doing AUTOTUNE!
im from the UK and lets be real this guy solar is whack i can’t believe he dumped the hottest DJ in the business, actually fuck that of all time for this dude!
the album is whack, productions are whack and im sorry to say it and never thought i would as i love what Guru has done with Premo in the past but your lyrics are whack too …
somebody give Premo a heads up on the whereabouts of Guru so they can talk and get their shit together again …
HIP HOP has never been the same for me since i first listened to a GangStarr album …
FUCK ALL YOU WHACK MC’s and DJS.
“DJ’ing and Freestyling From Your Own Mind, You Know”
Bluespark is definitely Solar! Twisted mofo, defending his own crappy productions under another moniker! FUCK SOLAR!!!
Unfortunately Guru and Solar and not splitting apart anytime soon since they’re homosexual lovers. Real talk, look it up, both them dudes is gayer than a three dolla bill.
sad end to a legacy.

wow. this comment was probably hilarious up until February and now today, on April 23, this comment is more serious than a heart attack. regardless of this track (which is, admittedly, wack), Guru’s legacy will forever live on, even independent of DJ Premier (as the Jazzmatazz project, pre-Solar, was pretty nice too).
also, DJ JS-1, first off, is this really JS-1? secondly, and especially if it is, you should know and recognize that “The Ownerz” dropped in 2003. it was probably Gang Starr’s worst album, but that’s like saying it was the worst amazingly delicious steak you’ve ever eaten lol. the album was dope, and damn near a classic. it was to Gang Starr what “Don’t Sweat The Technique” was to Eric B. & Rakim. so to say Guru hasn’t released anything good since 2002 is asinine.
RIP Guru. you will be sorely missed. :’(
