While there’s still a boatload of New York rappers out there, how many can say they’re actually making New York music ?
While you ponder on that tidbit, French Montana has been steady “krafting” his product with the likes of Dame Grease, Max B., Jadakiss and Fergie (?) to cook up an mixtape too hot for the kitchen with Mac Wit Da Cheese . This may be as gangsta as it gets before the Konvict Muzik merger kicks in, so take full advantage people.

There’s a lot of NY emcees making NY music, nobody is paying attention though.

Who?
Name em?
PSD fail.
@ Amp: You should know better than me, you live there don’t you??? On the real, most of the cats that I like from NY are mixtape/underground cats that I’m sure most of y’all don’t follow, such as:
Sha Stimuli
St. Laz
Dramills
Nyce
Un Pacino
Che Grand
Elucid
Plus many more…….
Grafh
Boom P
Hell Razah

Exactly & aside from St. Laz, the names you mentioned don’t ring bells out here. And I rocks with Un Pacino. No one is checking for those guys. French has a strong following (Thanks to Max B.) & is probably one of the most popular new artists from New York on a street level.
I’m not saying dude is the next big thing, but his music sounds like what New York music is supposed to sound like. Gritty beats & grimy bars.
Jada’s verse on NY Minute > 90% of the shit he spit on The Last Kiss
@ Amp: That’s the thing that confuses me though, the cat’s that I mentioned are dope but nobody checks for their material. One of my ninjaz who travels to NY frequently told me that cats over there don’t really follow artists from their town, but would rather listen to and support emcees from other regions. I guess that is true for any city though.

Sounds accurate.
Just cause you’re from the town doesn’t mean you automatically get that love. NYC is a hard city to break thru, but if you’re making music the people feel, cats’ll ride with you till the end.
I know niggas who think The Last Kiss is incredible lol.
You takin’ shots Amp??? lol. You’re right though, NYC is a hard market to crack. Most of the NY dudes that I saw killing the mixtape/dvd scene back in ’05 are struggling to stay relevant in ’09.

Real talk.
That’s why cats are trying to get that Down South love. It’s fucking up the music. NY artists should take a page outta the southern MC’s book. They cater to their hood first. If it crosses over, cool, but their focus is locking their hometown down.
The problem with NY are there are 4 million rappers, everyone raps, you don’t have time to listen to them all, and the ones that are good get lost in the mix. Everyone is selling there cd, everyone is a mixtape DJ, everyone makes beats, it’s fucking over saturation of the market. Every rapper who is good puts out there boys who can’t rap once they get a little buzz and they put out a group mixtape and each put out solo shit, it’s too much bullshit out there. NY supports it’s own Kill Cam doing a show @ highline that shit sold out in an hour, Jada just sold 135,000, Jim don’t sell no more cuz NY don’t fuck with him because of the Max B. situation… Too many chiefs not enough Indians…
Great point Gz up; everybody and their mama is either a rapper, dj, or producer. The fan is an endangered species.
@ Gz Up: I hear that, too many “artists” and not enough fans. It’s cool that people love the music and want to be instrumental in it’s development and future, but sometimes being a fan and supporter is greatest thing that you can do
Haha, that cover has me dying over here but I agree, the game is saturated right now.
