Copped! I don’t know everybodys ready to squat and let the ol bowels loose on the boy Marshall. This is the 1st time I can remember an artist ,besides Jay-Z, who is starting to be really considered wack only in comparison to himself. EVERYBODY just be eeeasy…
the art behind this is dope……but the fact that it is eminem and he is using this to promote his album is lame as fuck.
If this artist did something similar to promote anti-drug shit or something it would of been creative. Em’s just lame for his continued push of “purple pills” and other lame shit when I am sure he isn’t being 35yo or whatever and hittin the e daily along with an absolute addiction to OTC medicine.
I am gonna give the album a chance and a listen of course but this isn’t what I would of gone for. Similar to the first single it caters to the crowd of highschool kid and young teens thinking this shit is cool.
When reality hits and you’re additced to oxycodon (sp?) broke as fuck, 3 kids and a mortgage with wifey walking out the door and coming back with some papers to sign because you’re a loser it won’t seem as awesome anymore. Welcome to reality kids.

I think the artwork is dope as all hell you just have to approach it with both sides in mind. My drug-doing side gets very intrigued by the prescription label (anyone else feel me?) and there is definitely an appeal to the label cover for those who have been down that road before. The other side of me says that it really is not right to create an allure around over the counter medicine because addiction is as uncool as 2 girls 1 cup. Oh well, I think it’s ill overall and I can’t speak for everyone but I have never once been influenced to do something by album art… so I guess it really isn’t a big deal. Also I think he’ll be the first to tell you not to do depressants, I’m pretty sure the last thing Em needs is to revive his old success from purple pills… he’s had some pretty serious hits since then.
With all that being said…. We made you is still wack as hell…

TIP was not the first person to do a photo mosaic-style anything. We’ve all seen the posters of Bob Marley, etc OR t-shirts…or whatever.
The only reason this is being discussed is because TIP just dropped less than a year ago…still top of mind.
I like both artists and both covers…

1. I think people are shitting on Em due to the fact his single out the gate was so 2000, not good and did not showcase Eminem’s lyrical capability that we know he has…
2. I think the cover fits the album however I am worried that people will take the refill date seriously and only take this shit once on May 19th and return their local Rx for a different prescription (album)…
3. In this day and age if you ain’t going hard, go home…and from the looks of Em’s first single just like dude from Real World says to them gauntlet mufuckas “I’m sorry but you gotta pack you’re stuff and go home”…

if you think em is broke as fuck you are a real dick. secondly, this is not the first time he has even had pills on the cover of his LP. eminem is a smart business man and he knows people are gonna talk about this if they like it or not, you ARE talking about him right now yes? all of his first singles are always in this vein, and then he’ll kick out the conscious shit (i use the term conscious loosely)

as for the cover, I agree with dub.Z. I think it would look better as just a mess of pills, no face…someone of Em’s notoriety doesn’t need a picture on their cover.

I like the cover. The art is at the least creative, even if people don’t like it. In a sea of album covers where EVERYBODY is ice-grilling with a mouth full of gold teeth, wearing too much fake jewelry and trying their damnedest to look hard (and failing miserably) this is still a breath of fresh air, even if it has been done a few times before.

You guys are right, at the end of the day the artwork doesn’t affect the music. However, it is a post about the cover art, so it bears talking about.
I think the criticisms of the artwork are more than fair. As stated above, one of his contemporaries just had a very similar cover, and T.I.’s was executed better in my opinion. TI’s was subtle and the shapes of the paper actually worked to create an abstraction of dude’s face. The Eminem shit is too perfect. His hairline is super crispy, the curve of his ear is smooth. All of that is unnecessary. To me, this is a boring and poorly executed copy of an album cover that I liked.
Obviously the mosaic thing is nothing new, but at least look outside of last year’s hip-hop releases for inspiration. There’s plenty of ways to interpret “Relapse” as a visual. You would think Em or his designer would’ve shut that idea down before it made it this far. Between this and “We Made You” what reason do I have to expect anything new from Em and this album?
^good point jay. how is ever having your picture on the cover original? a million people have done it and will continue to. if you’re upset because someone else had their picture on their album then maybe you should just internalize that and not let people know that you’re so petty.
