Eminem Covers XXL
GENERAL By Beware on April 14, 2009 at 10:23 pm…And he looks like a damn weirdo.
Aside from that, though, I wouldn’t call them terrible. I would call them completely cheesy, but I’m hoping the free Em x Punisher comic makes up for the lack of expression the photographer should’ve stirred out of the once animated MC. Either way, the issue drops in June and features Slim’s thoughts on several topics, including the Hip-Hop, T.I., Lil Wayne and death of his best friend, Proof.
On Proof’s Death
“Everyone felt his loss, from his kids, to his wife, to everyone. But, for some reason, in hindsight, the way I felt was almost like it happened to just me…Maybe at the time I was a little bit selfish with it. I think it kind of hit me so hard. It just blindsided me. I just went into such a dark place that, with everything, the drugs, my thoughts, everything. And the more drugs I consumed, and it was all depressants I was taking, the more depressed I became, the more self-loathing I became…By the way, I’m just now at the point where I’m better talking about it. It took me so long to get out of that place where I couldn’t even speak about it without crying or wanting to cry…Proof was the anchor. He was everything to D12. And not just the group-for me, personally, he was everything.”
On T.I., Lil Wayne & Hip-Hop“I stayed up on the music, and obviously I watch TV and saw what was going on. And without naming any name, it just felt like hip-hop was going downhill. And it seemed like kinda fast. You know, in them three years, it was like everybody just cares about the hook and the beat; nobody really cares about substance. But with this new T.I. album, with this new Lil Wayne album of recent, it seems like things are looking a lot better now. You can appreciate Lil Wayne using different words to rhyme and actually rhyming words that you know. Or T.I., where you hear shit and you’re like Whoa, ah, I wish I would have thought of that! You know what I mean? Or you hear all the compound-syllable rhyming and all that. It just seems like now the craft is getting cared about more
Upon further review, these covers are definitely overkill (which may or may not be the irony).

Schweet!!
*guilty*
(above reason^)
Ross dropped a banger. Can’t front.
the fact that homes isn’t dying his hair blonde anymore has me conflicted….. it could mean that he’s grown up and gonna show us a new mature side…. but it also could mean he’s waiting for the next single to drop before he shows us what he’s really capable of. Either way, I just hope when Relapse drops on May 12th…..err May 19th then we’ll all be blown away….
you listening Marshall?
for those of yall still checkin for this cat (i used to like Deja Vu cuz it banged so hard it made shit fall off shelves in stores i parked in front of)…

35+ is fuckin ancient…
========================
It is?
what i said was:
“unless you’re in the wu-tang or have achieved legendary status in the game (he hasn’t (yet)), 35+ is fuckin ancient…if his shit wasn’t dyed brown it’d prolly be all salt-n-pepper”
and, yeah, unless you’re bun or jay or nas, etc., 35+ is pretty damn old to be an emcee…and it seems like right around that time a lot of rappers start tryin to re-brand themselves, update their image, etc.
COULD SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE PUT UP THE ‘WIPE ME DOWN’ REMIX WITH PIMP C ON IT?? HARDDRIVE JUST DIED NEED IT CHEERS!!
“unless you’re in the wu-tang or have achieved legendary status in the game (he hasn’t (yet)), 35+ is fuckin ancient…if his shit wasn’t dyed brown it’d prolly be all salt-n-pepper”
———————————————————————–
what? why does the Wu get a pass for being old and em doesnt? i mean, 36chamber came out when? OBFQL? tical? how was that last Wu disc? nas had a big break between illmatic and his “come back” how is that legend status? jay, well yeah dude has put out solid work since he first came out, thats what legend status is. we have a month to see if em is still up to par. if not then we can talk about him making way to the younger cants. but i’d rather hear a 1/2 ass em then a solja boy or ron brownz
i wasn’t shitting on em’s music, i was giving a possible explanation for his new haircut, image, etc. i’m saying that maybe his age has something to do with him trying to look “young”…also, although i’m definitely an eminem fan (i’d put him in my top 5 still alive), he has two really good (not classic) albums, one okay album, and one horrible album…those numbers do not make a legend…i put bun, nas and jay as my examples of older rappers because, at least as far as i can tell, they seem to get a pass when it comes to their age…the wu, too, as well as rakim, snoop, q-tip, etc…commercial rap is a young man’s game, though, and for an artist like em to sell eminem numbers, he’s gotta gear his shit towards that demographic – and that includes his image, his look and his goofy-ass first single
well rakim hasnt put out a album since 99, so dont know how he’s getting a pass on making music. snoop had a make over, think “shizzle”. jay did kingdom come as his “remake” but well that CD sucked, so he went back to the AG hustler ways. nas got his spark back with either, but then dropped untitled, and well that speaks for it’s self.
em’s marketing has been a gimmick from the start, look at my name is, the video, the bleached hair(he has brown hair in real life). pretty much the only way white emcee’s will sell is with a gimmick (asher:college/bubba:redneck) get the avg fans to buy, cause most the real heads are already checking and can recognize skills when they come along.
and em’s not going to do ‘00 em numbers, no one will, not in this econ/music market. if he does 750K it will be a smash. i mean kanye only did like 450k with 808, and he can be argued as one of the biggest hiphop/pop stars out right now.
his face is blatantly photo shopped
“his face is blatantly photo shopped”
True, they fitted the Punisher’s eyes in his face to make him appear more similar to the superhero.
Other than that I think it’s a funny cover and I hope Em lives up to it Punishing every faker in the game.
@ Sherm: So what’s a prime age to retire in rap??? I thought that most emcees got better with time (the good ones at least) because they had more experiences to talk about. It seems that 30+ is taboo in hiphop or something.
I believe that the age of an emcee has now been extended greatly as evidenced by artists such as Jay-Z.
Hip-Hop as a genre and culture is still relatively young. I remember while growing up, it was fairly easy to spot the “old rappers trying to advance.” It was the way that they spit. But now… gone are the days when an emcee’s flow is a dead giveaway to his or her age.
If someone did not tell you Em or Nas’s ages… I highly doubt that it would even be a factor.
Around a decade ago, I would have sworn to you that someone such as Jigga would not be able to be as relevant as he currently is. But as said, Hip-Hop is really in its infancy if you are around my age.
So that is why I posed the question Sherm – it was certainly not to go at you in any way.
It is amazing to [finally] see a time when Hip-Hop artists can now be just like the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith’s, or Bon Jovi’s. Still making great music, selling out shows, still winning awards, and still selling records.
Before, the genre was just too young. But it is crazy how it has evolved – and so quickly in its acceptance of an “older” emcee.
I for one think it is great. No one is telling Mick, Steven, or Jon to hang up their mics…
Why should it be any different for an emcee?
Agreed…
But Jigga is old as fuck.
Can ANYONE explain who the fuck put an age limit on hip hop music, this is the only genre where the listener is so IGNORANT they base things on age rather than the music the artist produces for you to listen too. Half the people on this blog werent even around in the so called ‘”golden years” of hip hop. Age has NOTHING to do with the quality of music and once we get off this tip maybe we can start appreciating what the art as a whole brings to the table.
Age ain’t nothing but a number, the older cats pee over most these young dudes anyway case in example, Ghostface, NAS, Jay-Z, Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Rakim, Black Thought, GZA, Bun B, Scarface etc.
These younger cats need to actually need to get their game on point, and actually produce a decent emcee, besides Blu and Wale I ain’t tipping my hat to any of them. I’m prettier and wittier than a lot of them, on a bad hair day.
None of these noveau cats will cut it anyway, they’ll come and go like the wind, it’s the true skool artists still holding down the fort, they can’t be shifted, because they refuse to be budged.
WITH A SONG LIKE “WE MADE YOU” HE SHOULDA HAD ON RICHARD SIMMONS SHORT WITH A SEX ON THE BEACH IN HIS RIGHT HAND…
MAN EMINEM JUST REALLY TURNED ME OFF (PAUSE) WITH THAT SINGLE….FRIGGIN GEE WILLIKERS BBY GOLLY GOSH DARNIT MARSHALL…

ANOTHA TIME,
MALLY
yo sherm, if you kno anything about hip hop you know em’s a legend. plain and simple, hes a fuckin legend. the marshal mathers lp is still to this day the fastest selling hip hop album ever. the eminem show is a classic, relapse is dope, and the slim shady lp was bomb. eminem broke down barriers changed hip hop forever. so unless your a dumbass you’ll recognize em’s ridiculous skill. no matter how old he gets, i stay bumpin em’s shit erryday. dumbass.
