honestly when the XXL freshman 10 came out I was only really checking for blu, and possibly bobby ray. it just seemed like their bars werent that dope. cause its hard to find a verse these days that make me go “damn” how the fuck did they even think of that. but lately ive stopped letting my prejudice of newer artists get the best of me. and because of that, this class actually has a lot of potential.
wale can be monstrous. that kid named cudi mixtape is the shit to me, even if he is a diva. curren$y grew on me alot, nh. mickey factz has wowed me with his freestyles, especially that one with all the art metaphors. despite all the hate on asher roth, the boy can flow. i already mentioned blu and bob. as for cory gunz, his flow is remarkable, but i dont think i can listen to an album of that. i just cant really get into c. hamilton’s shit nh, but i know some of yall swear by him. and then there’s ace hood. who i just really havent heard. at all.
despite all the potential this class has, it doesnt necessarily mean they’ll blow either. the last XXL cover of new MCs has hardly even got their career lifted off the ground. off the top of my head i can think of lupe, joell, crooked, saigon, papoose. almost none of the MCs on that list have even released a damn album yet. i guess all im trying to say is we may not like hip hop as it currently stands, and can blame all the new artists or whatever. radio and promotion is a whole nother issue. but we cant complain that the only good MCs left are the Jay’s and Nas. we gotta give this new class a chance as well, even if the chances they create an illmatic or reasonable doubt are 0%.

I think Curren$y wants his schedule cleared on 4/20, so that’s why he’s pushing the release back a day.
