If KiD CuDi is the crown jewel of GOOD Music then Big Sean is the unfortunate black sheep. He’s been signed to the label for almost two years and hasn’t received the spins, sales and more importantly, recognition of his record label brethren. He has the potential to have a solid career via radio friendly songs that hit the same demo that Ye and CuDi reach. It’s just that he hasn’t had a solid crack at the spotlight.
While the subject matter behind most of his songs doesn’t stray from getting money, bagging chicks, or being “Finally Famous,” he does have a few flashes of potential greatness. Take “Minds Playing Tricks On Me” off of his UKNOWBIGSEAN tape. It’s an introspective account on losing everything you took for granted in an untimely murder. This song exhibits the young rapper’s growth in content and lyrical ability since his debut mixtape.
Spitting on a classic is a risky move to say the least, especially for a rapper without any considerable radio play. Sean held it down and gave people an idea on why he got signed in the first place. Let’s hope he lives up to his finally famous call sign in the future.

Wow. This guy is very bad. who is his target audience? people who think will smith is the coolest guy?
^You see, that is what you call hate.
naw Big Sean got some coo tracks, good array of differin styles and possibly the ability to please both underground/commercial, you can tell he wants to, plus cosigns from Pharrell/MC Serch, not bad. Ima keep a look out.
Good read but I don’t think comparin to cudi is fair. Cudi’s hungry and gifted, not to say sean isn’t the same but it comes down to show & prove at the end of the day
Good read but I don’t think comparin to cudi is fair.

But isn’t that what you just did?
Can you say “Biased”?

I have to thank TC for pushing me to do this post.

Eff you…. yeah I still got a copy of He’s The DJ, I’m The Rapper!
Both are good… and I’m a fan of both. I really feel that the people of G.O.O.D. Music don’t know how to share the spotlight. The only reason why Common gets his meals is because he was already established waaaaayyyyy before Kanye fame.
Often imitated, … but never duplicated. Roc-a-fella Records has been gone for years now. I’d like to see Yeezy and company use someone else’s business model instead.
First off Detroit Stand up! he and mike posner are from detroit (mike from southfield) but anyway listen to the whole album, not going to say he is better than kid cudi but he is a good addition to G.O.O.D. music… I’m glad to see some people from Detroit getting shine (yung berg what was that?) good music>koch (not to disrespect anyone on koch cause I like some of them… p.s. his (big seans) concerts are crazy!
This is a pure bastardisation of a stone cold classic.
He makes the occasional banger, but I’d question his work ethic. You can’t really make a hit if you don’t put material out there…
I listened to Shawn’s tape that just came out not too long ago, but I didn’t really like alot of the songs…he had a few that I was feeling but I think if he was more solid or maybe more dope people would pay more attention…
I mean in this day and age if you have even the slightest push from the right label and have all the talent to back it up…people will eat it up…It’s possible that he hasn’t received the right spins/recog. cause those who recognize don’t like his music or they wanna wait until they hear something more promising…just my op…
Anotha Time,

this dude is very average. & while I admittedly appreciate some “terrible” music — I still never intend to fuck with just regular ol “average” shit.
