Aight, well I’m officially excited for Asleep In The Bread Isle but it’s taken a lot for me to get to this point. His single “I Love College” was catchy but just not my deal since it sounded like he struggled too hard to a backdrop that most rappers could carry with ease. Every release I have heard thereafter, this guy has improved his game. He carries his flow similar to…well you know. When his delivery is sped up, the similarities between the two are hard to ingore but it’s Asher’s choice of subjects that differentiates the two. Like Em, Ash does tell stories but the content varies from parties to his dedication to the game and the pursuit to make a name for himself like we hear here.
So far this is Asher at his best, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have Beans and Rock City lace it for good measure (Beans kills it as ordinary). I guess this track is one of the first that gives Roth that “e-street cred” now that he has been co-signed by Sigel and recently Kanye. This beat, again, isn’t one that would be too hard for any rapper to find his way over. But the easy, head-nodding melody allows us to focus on Asher and he manipulates the track well.
Asleep In The Bread Aisle comes out on “National War Against A Plant Day”, I’ll be checkin it out.

If I give Asher points for getting a Sigel feature, do I have to subtract points from Beanie for actually doing the song?

@amp - Lulz its taken a while too but I’m finally at the point where I’ll check out “Asleep” when it comes out. After all this hype the kid has got to deserve a chance just for staying with it and not bowing down to the hater - which I have been a major one of.

There were a bunch of lame Jay-Z/Big/Pac soundalikes who never got any love. Shyne is the exception. Why is it any different for this kid?

Asher should of stuck with his own deal if he ever found it, but here he is given us a reincarnation of em, right when em is coming back = wrong motherfuckin timing yo!!
i’ve seen all the love & hate asher has received, here at TSS and other places, and i’ve just played the “majority rules” game and gave his music a pass … but i heard “perfectionist” over the weekend and had to reconsider my opinion.
just from my hazy memory, i thought the flow was sick but i gotta check it out again … i mean, its obvious that he sounds like em (just like shyne = BIG) but the difference i remember was in the wordplay.
only time will tell how he does once em’s LP drops.
Of course I’ll listen. Shit’s free…

will be copin his album when it drops, period. I need fresh music, not Plies, Soulja Boy, OJ the Juice Man or Gucci Mane (unless i’m in the club groovin on a chick) so I’m buying Ash on that principle alone.
