It seems Asher Roth is going to be more of a problem than we ever anticipated.
Not only is his single ahead of Eminem’s on iTunes, but after hearing him drop bombs during this recent session with Funkmaster Flex, the heir apparent’s God-given talent might be on par with his predecessor. The way this kid effortlessly weaves syllables together over Rakim’s “Know The Ledge” instrumental, without letting up, it leaves me dumbfounded. It sounds like he’s spitting bars while simultaneously twiddling his thumbs.
If Asleep In The Bread Aisle is as good as I’ve heard and Slim keeps pronouncing the word ‘Tahoe’ like a stuck-up valley girl, there might be an alignment shifting going on.

By no means is he the GOAT or even the Rapper of the Year, but behind Wale, Holly Weerd, and Cudi, there isn’t any rapper that’s being posted on here that has the potential or talent to blow up in the “near” future.

if this is how dudes felt when eminem dropped i now know what my guts been telling me since “my name is”. trends really infect hip hop and not the other way around. i remember before em even dropped dudes were bleaching there hair, but having slim gave them something to unite over. roth really represents every fucking preppy ive ever broken into a house of, mid game of pong, and beat the fuck up.

A friend (who listens to Hip-Hop but is not a hardcore Hip-Hop head) and I were driving a few weeks back and they heard “I Love College.”
(I believe that is what the single is called)
What they asked when they heard it?
“Is this Eminem?”
So yeah… to those who are not really into Hip-Hop like “that” (and are not in the know), this dude is Eminem (without the freestyle skills).
I have nothing against him.
If Em were not returning I could see him blowing up. But not with Em coming back now.
Plus, as I said (without listening to the above), his freestyles are not good – at all.
I don’t hate on his skill or talent. It just sucks that he has to be compared to Eminem. People are waiting for Asher to drop a verse like “Renegade,” but let’s face it, it’s not going to happen. He’s just not in the same lane at all.
Plus, I just hate when any MC, regardless of skin tone, terribly mispronounces words to make them fit.
Ie: Asher Roth on “Change Gon Come:” “We’ve been pompous ever since Colombas couldn’t use a compass” He says that shit weird and it sounds wack.
even worse is when they recognize their mispronunciation: Lil’ Wayne on Barry Bonds (TWICE!): “I shall hayve them, OOPS! I meant have them!”

when em dropped and freestyled, it wasn’t about skin color it was the words and flow he put together. I was the main 1 telling cats this kid Em was a problem off what he did on Bizzare first album and the ep he did. A Roth without the press releases and push and rifkind connects would never get run on your site or any of these blogs ever and if you say otherwise, I got broke white kids who can really spit, without any connections, would y’all put them on as well?
Co-Sign MQ. I’d be interested to see what an artist that can actually spit would do with the insane industry connections asher roth is enjoying. I actually was relatively impressed by his Tim Westwood freestyle because he was able to continue with his stream of consciousness for a really long time.
What I do have a problem with is the culture he’s representing. He’s a really really corny representative for white kids, and I’m yet to meet one music fan who thinks highly of him. That and he said he only does concerts for “6 g’s and any drugs you can give him”.
