The Daily Print War Of Attrition Report: KING & Chicago Sun-Times

Yesterday, when Blender fell off the cliff, both KING magazine & the Chicago Sun-Times must have been attached to the rope in a cartoonish fashion as both waved symbolic white flags today.
Sun-Times Media Group Inc., owner of the Chicago Sun-Times and many suburban newspapers, today voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with the aim of reorganizing operations, settling a tax liability and making the company fit for a buyer. The petition was filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. Chairman Jeremy Halbreich said the filing was a difficult decision but essential for the company “to re-establish itself as a self-sustaining, profitable operation. That is worth fighting for.”
His overriding goals are to sustain the company’s print and online news operations while “preserving as many jobs as possible,” he said.
That may be easier said than done as the company owes $608 million to the IRS. But as Gawker stated, at least they won the Chicago print war since the Chicago Tribune’s parent company went under a while ago.
Perhaps closer to home for some of you with sticky pages in your possession, KING will be closing shop, apparently not even releasing a final issue. One of the leaders in bosoms, booty & shiny pages, it’s tough to see them go because they did sustain themselves for so long. That plus some of us here did put in work with the online edition, thus there’s some relationships there. But with The Cooler & the prevalence of free pron these days, it was bound to happen.
Now, I just have to figure out what I’m going to switch JM’s prison subscription to.

Can’t say I’m shocked about the Scum-Times going under. The internet is raping print media. Plus, the previous CEO’s of the paper are doing federal bids for cooking the books and lying about circulation numbers/profit margins while stuffing the $$$$ in their pockets. The paper nowadays is as thin as Star magazine, hold it up to light and the sun will shine right through it (swear to God yo!!). Just yesterday they raised the price on the paper from .50 cents to .75 cents even though the paper itself is rarely more than 80 pages nowadays and half of that is classifieds/ads. I never gave them bums my money, too many hack columnists in the sports section (Jay Mariotti, Greg Couch, Carol Slezack, Taylor Bell) and way too much whiny fake progressive fake liberal hyper-sensationalized always on Obama’s nuts bullshit in the actual “news” section, that is, when they reported news, they also had a lot of BS celebrity shit on the FRONT PAGE, even to this day. I’ll pass. I go to guerrillanews.com and washingtonindependent.com for my news, and for Chicago news I usually just listen to the local NPR station (i’m an addict lol) and give the local rags here (tribune, scum times) only a cursory glance lol.
BTW, G, they owe $608 million to the IRS, not $68 million. I know you just probably forgot the zero by accident, but it is a significant digit in the equation lol.
Seriously though, I just went to the corner and gave them .75 cents for the first time in ages just to re-affirm my point, this shit is pure fluff, no news, peace the fuck out lol.
