“Who Will Watch The Watchers?”
I will.
The only contention now is whether to hit the neighborhood spot tonight, or to wait for the IMAX experience. I’ll probably do both.
As a younger Contra™, I was always a huge fan of graphic novels and comics even though I never could afford them overpriced shits. So in between meals and classes, I’d hide out in the school library and read whatever they had. Frank Miller’s Sin City, 300 and Dark Knight series were amongst the instant favorites. So imagine my surprise when they started turning them into movies some years back.
When this random renaissance of graphic novels started up and the movies began churning out, I was thrown into a nostalgic reenactment of a childhood past.
Although I’m mad at all the bandwagonners(more on that later), I can’t help but feel somewhat elated that The Watchmen somehow made it off my bookshelf and onto the silver screen. Surprise, surprise, someone in Hollywood has taste.
I’m gonna be lacing up my new shoes at about 11:45pm tonight and hitting up that 12:01am screening to watch pictures come to life and dreams realize. Who else is going for it?

Coming to America OST

Do I need need to say it? midnite…I’m still somewhat skeptical. It’ll be hard to make a movie true to this book. And there’s damn sure no way the ending is gonna be the same
I’m not gonna comment on how true to the book this movie’s gonna be since I haven’t read it in about 12 or 13 years, but I’ll say that after seeing the first 20mins at WonderCon last week, I have high hopes
Every review I’ve read has said the dialogue sucks, so I’m gonna have to wait to hear from some more reliable sources. Like TSS.
Eh.
I dont read reviews. I did get a sneak peak at a good chunk of the flick and i am optimistic.
Sorry Contra, I am one of those bandwagoners.
I was always a Marvel kid.
Either way, i’ll DEFINITELY be seeing this in theaters (rare these days). Quite possibly even tonight.
dude….if the movie is half as good as the book…i’ll be happy.
I have gotten mixed reviews from people who have seen the film. But the best advice I have gotten was go see the movie 1st then read/reread the graphic novel; that way you go into the movie unbiased.
I’ll wait for the special edition DVD to drop, apparently the cut is much longer and more in depth than the theatrical cut, and the DVD will drop around June time.
In the mean time bring on Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, jeah!
*Wonders about Coming to America OST*
I read something that they were trying to make a movie for this back like 2 years after the graphic novel was made. So This movie could be late, but it’s a great time to come out with all the technology we have. But with more effects, you loose dialog. That’s the times. Look at The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I’m still waiting for a Kindom Come movie.
Tryna see it in IMAX sometime this weekend. I guess you could call me somewhat of a bandwagon jumper. I read comic books but hadn’t read Watchmen, heard of it, but never read it. After seeing some of my friends bug out when we went to see The Dark Knight and the trailer came on, I borrowed it from one of em and read it last summer, then read it again a few months ago. Dope, to say the least. I’m also a bit skeptical about how they adapted it, cuz I read an article about it in EW and they were saying some of the stuff they changed, like there’s no ‘Tales of the Black Freighter’ (the pirate side story), which I was looking forward to, instead it will be a separate animated DVD.
@Dizastix, yeah I believe that is the case with Tales of the Black Freighter, however, I heard that the animated DVD might possibly be packaged as part of the the deluxe set DVD and Blu-Ray releases.
Either way I’ll put save up some coin to purchase when they drop, would like to watch it on the big screen, but I get the impression that this is one of those flicks you need repeated viewings of to fully appreciate, just like Michael Mann’s HEAT. Didn’t take it all in on the big screen, but loved it on DVD after multiple views.
Also, I’m glad they did Watchmen now instead of back in 1989, don’t think the technology back then would have done it justice and also don’t think the world was ready for that type of stuff back then either, we were still living in the days of the Brat Pack and the shadow of Dirty Dancing was still looming heavy, errrrr yuck!
I too have high hopes for this movie. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a semi bandwagoner, but the difference I feel is that I’ve read the books.
I think the dialogue is probably the hardest so I wouldn’t be surprised if its the weakest part, but as long as the key ideas and themes remain, I’m a happy kid.
As for the movie, I’m gonna catch it sometime this weekend. Not midnight when the teeny boppers who have no idea who half the characters are. I will however be blissfully drunk in a house full of sorority girls.
College FTW.
Action scenes are CRAAAAAAZY, but the rest of the movie is kinda slow and i didn’t like the final scene that much.
and WTF with the naked blue guy…. put some pants on man !
i may need to refine the scope on my “bandwagon” dart. I mean people who have
1. Not read or do not care to read the book.
2. Never heard, and never cared about this shit until the buzz came along
3. Still want to act like they run shit and hype the movie up like it’s their bio pic and front like they know the story front to back.
The one that ticked me off the most was some 17y.o kid in a theater who said “Yeah, u see the one with a mask, his superpower is that he can change his face at anytime.” and his boys went “whooooooooa” and I kinda just stared like “The one with a mask?”
^ LOL. I know exactly what you mean. hahaha.
lol @ one with the mask.
but I know how frustrating bandwagon jumpers like that can be…i got my fair share of it with the celtics last season lol…and that shits still goin on
I dontk now about lacin up at 11:45, lines get long as fuck for movies like this lol.
IMAX baby! This weekend. Too bad I have plans tonight and friday night… so I will be catching this on Saturday. Even Ebert said it was the shit, and he will be seeing it twice. I can hardly wait.
@ Aron: Tickets been copped, and I got people on the inside. I’d like to meet the kid who thinks he can keep me out of a seat. Find himself defenestrated before the shit even start, word to the Comedian.
i can’t front. i never heard of the watchmen before last year. not seriously at least… seems like an interesting movie. but i checked the papers–i’m old school like that–and they said the joint is 2 hours and 41 minutes.
regardless, i can’t handle a late-night screenin’–poppa Canseco got to drink his prune juice and hit the sack by 10pm at the latest or the joints start creekin’ by sunrise…
That’s the price you pay for the roids’ Canseco hahaha
Dude, the movie 2 hours and 45 minutes!!!!

I was trying to save a seat, well a couple of em for a movie a while ago. Dude was in his late 20′s, im 19, he thought he could bully me around and I ended up breaking my fist on his forehead. I myself had people on the inside at the time and him and his buddy got kicked out lol.
Holy fuck man, I’m on Issue/Chapter 12 right now and about to finish this before I see the flick. Does anyone know how closely they will follow the original storyline? Also
*******SPOILERS*****
Does anyone know what was Ozymandias’ motive to destroy the world? I kind read through that shit fast a few minutes ago. That dude is so fucked up.
major shout to whoever uploaded that Coming To America OST
