…Because thankfully there are others who do the dirty work for me.
And many of the points B-Dub makes are valid. Very. There’s a distinct line between blogging, imitation and creating your own lane as a ____________ (insert the word for whatever it is you call yourself). Most of these sites are “a million Nah Right Jrs and OnSMASH orphans” and generally ass. No original thought. No engaging commentary. No reviews of the music. Just swiped links of the suggested “hot” song of the day.
Not to say we’re above thievery & putting it on cruise control every now & then. But in most cases, that’s just public service plus a placeholder as we concoct some other shit. In other words, innovate. Prove that you have a knowledge of more & more interests than just rap. There’s other genres. And as I tell people quite frequently, I don’t want to write about Hip-Hop music all day long because at times the music is stale. Also, audiences have more interests than just music. Engage them. Talk to them about sneakers, bureaucracy, wrestling….a “Coming To America” quiz. At the end of the day, Hip-Hop is bigger than just the music. Hip-Hop is a culture, a way of thought. And it’s the lenses through which I view the world so no matter what I talk about it, it comes from a Hip-Hop perspective.
So even when we do a cereal post, it becomes Hip-Hop.
RMF!

What can I say? I’m honored to smack people around on your behalf.
There’s some great content out there. Just takes digging to find it. A lot of digging.
Good looks on the post. It makes it all worthwhile. *Wipes tear from eye*
Primero
Shit. RealTalkNY aka “Real Talk Nah Stalk” has got to be the most overrated “hip hop” blog out there. Watch him come here and bitch about how “numbers don’t lie” and how he puts in work. Nigga can’t even conduct proper interviews or formulate a proper sentence. Nigga’s the BET of blogging.
“Shots fired!” lol
I ain’t knocking the “bigger sites.” They’ve made their way doing their thing. So be it.
It’s those trying to come up following the same script, those are the ones that kinda bore me.
Nigga’s the BET of blogging.
=============================================================
Damn…Man thats just…Damn…
This is why I come here. I’m gonna have to start checkin’ for B-Dub’s too. Peace!
That definition of a bamma post in the smoke break is on point. That shit is a classic.
I’ve been posting my favorite new albums for like 2 years now. I’m loving it. People need to be on their on shit. Do your own thing.
TSS IS MAJOR!!
TSS foe life son!!
I have about 5 hip hop blogs that I frequent daily, I’m proud to say that this is the very 1st site that I come to, I usually tell people that “TSS is my newspaper , and the other site are just the ‘funnies’.” This site compile CULTURE, not limiting itself to just music. And a big part of culture is appreciating other cultures which you guys do thoroughly. So I do tip my New Era to Gotty, TC, MZ, Contra, Beware and all the TSS crew you guys are truly Major!
^^ complie(s)
Talking about stuff outside of hiphop or how it relates to hiphop is cool, but sometimes dope music gets overlooked in the process. Balance is everything. My top blogs:
1. TSS
2. Nahright
3. Hiphop Update
4. Kevin Nottingham
5. Rappersiknow
6. 2Dopeboyz
7. Xclusiveszone
^ yeah, but there’s a difference between talking about music, music discovery…and just reposting some bullshit.
@Flea, no site is gonna be able to scoop all of the music up. This site is the perfect blend of music and lifestyle.
No shots fired at Eskay or any of the other big dogs out there. My point is that they are who they are, and coming on here and trying to be them is pointless – they already have that spot.
Create your own lane.
Gotty, we gone have to let em know what time it is… like Movado.
@ Cell: I know that, plus with the amount of crap out there who would want to. I’m just refering to the dope stuff.
@ Gotty: That’s why TSS is #1 on the list my ninja ;)
Very interesting article… and i agree with B-Dub about posting on other people’s blogs…. ill be doing that more often….
TSS is major once again.
One of the 1st sites I hit most days related to music and lifestyle.
Although I don’t comment on every post, I have come here most days since Gotty had his 2 (g)locks on the desk to read the reactions and thoughts of the regular tss commenters.
Honourable mentions to:
Kevin Nottingham
Davey D and
Blind I
Thanks for keeping this site apart from the others with originality and on point reviews and interviews.
The only issue i have with blogs are those that nuthug certain artists…. i mean its good to support but when your getting saddleburn from riding em around, its whack…
I blog and its effin hard balancing out a 9-5 and attempt to keep the site interesting but hey I love what I do so I’m good for improvement…

We do that so I won’t act holier than thou. For the most part, we try to temper ourselves, otherwise I could post a Killer Mike song each day lol.

haha, i’ve tried to explain that to people. Cats see it being done & think “Oh i can do it better.” You may be able to…for like 3-4 mths & you run out of shit to say lol. there’s strength (and good variety) in numbers.
@ Gotty I can’t front like I favor some artists but you have some people , like B Dub said who will just post anything for the sake of posting…. This site is one of my favs because it offers what the OTHERS (who i refuse to name to keep the peace) don’t and that’s honesty…

Yes your’re ‘nuthugging’ of WTK and LAD must STOP!! Lol
HAHAA
Can’t speak for the next “fan”, but this site is the SHIT.
This was on point, only thing I can’t agree with is music reviews. I post no reviews on my blog, I have no desire to write them either. I just see reviewing music as pointless, how is someone else going to tell me why I should or should not like some music? For every album or song that I think is dope as hell, I can find someone who thinks it’s garbage. I’ll occasionally read the reviews on here just to see if the person had similar views as me, or because sometimes its interesting to see why they thought a certain way, but usually I skip em.
I think the problem is the over saturation of hip-hop NEWS “blogs”, cuz they’re all posting the exact same shit. Honestly, no shots, but I think half the posts on NahRight are trash. I don’t need to see every interview, with every artist, everyday, saying the exact same thing. I also don’t need 2 minute “freestyles” that no one would listen to twice. Half the time, the shit that’s in “NahRight Lite” is better than the posts. The thing I like about TSS, and what keeps me coming back, is the writing. Yall won’t just post a video, you post a video, talk about it, bring up related issues, discuss it…you make it intriguing by adding content to the content itself.
I run my own blog also, and my blog is just that, my blog. I don’t try to make it a news blog that posts all the new tracks that leak, yet I still have myspace artists emailing me “how can I get on your site!?!” and NahRight clones wanting to link exchange. I aint tryna diss nobody, but if I aint fuckin wit you, I aint fuckin wit you. My main thing is just trying to spread GOOD music, and I feel like I do that, at least some people have told me so. I’m the dude that’s always introducing my friends to good music, everyone comes to me to burn them a dope CD or for recommendations. So I figured why not just put it all in one place they can access it at anytime. I feel like hip-hop can be loved and understood by anyone, they just have to be open to it and genuinely enjoy it. I’ll also post whatever I stumble across that I find interesting and I actually like. At the same time it’s my outlet to rant about whatever I want, and have like minded people read and respond to it. Shit…I’m doing it right now…I’ll stop.
@Bigga: GUNRULE!!!

BONG BONG and GOONIE GOO GOO! I agree with you completely!!
@ Dizastix
Interested in your site if you care to share.
Also, for my friends/fam and extended I’m the go to person that burns the cd’s/fills the mp3 players and turn others onto new and different music. I’m hip hop forever but it’s bigger than 1 genre of music for me.
SMOKING SECTION PUTS ALL OTHER HIP HOP BLOGS TO SHAME. NOTHING ELSE IS RELEVANT.
@Mikey: word, sometimes I wonder if anyone can make any sense of the shit I write. glad you did haha
@The Kid Super: http:///www.bluntcruise.com . I also agree with it being bigger than just hip-hop, it’s music in general. While hip-hop is more to me than just the music, it does make up a majority of my library. But, for example, I love when I’ll be having a conversation with someone about The LOX and then seeing the look on their faces if I mention I like Fall Out Boy haha
And co-sign it being hard to balance a blog with classes and work. My problem isn’t having nothing to say, it’s never getting the time to write! Hopefully that’ll change once classes end for me…
I once stole £2 from my mum’s purse so that I could rent Childs Play 2 from the local video store, and these are my confessions!
^got it. Good Looking.
honestly i come here because i fuck with alot of the posters…
no homo
alot of the replies make me think outside the box or confirm how i aolready feel about some shit.
alot of the forums blogs i see now are full of fans that are obsessive dick riding groupies.
B-Double reminded me that I need to come backk to TSS more often to give you guys props. thanks, yo!
hands down, it’s the comments in this post that confirm why TSS is simply the only “hip-hop blog” i read. period.
it’s similar to how i went from trying to pick up every single rap magazine on the newsstand, then began to sift through the bullshit and stick with what’s worth reading (and learning from).
so pretty much, being a part of the TSS community is like getting the actual-factual true story from your peoples, with commentary from the regulars, as opposed to hearin’ it from someone who mighta coulda been there.
best i can say it. too high to be as prolific as dizastix (all respect due!)
The irony is, you stole this post.
lol, nah i wanna say B sent it or it popped up on my RSS.
I’d have something clever to say if I wasn’t so damn constipated…
@ILLIONARE Nah, Gotty peeped it and asked if he could post it. But that’s what good blogs are – they take a post or an idea and give their OWN take. That’s what I do and that’s what TSS does.
That’s why TSS is a daily read for me and why TSS LOVES my ish. LMAO

Thats the same way i feel….I dont even think about going to other blogs, except for the occasional curve ball, I like BIG BOOTY blogs also….
Yes, those are my confessions!!
@B-Double True. Oh yeah, I just added your blog to my Google Reader subscriptions. Good shit you got going on there. Don’t worry, I ain’t stealing any articles, though. BOSS!
