Last time that I bring up SXSW (I promise). But Mistah F.A.B. caught my attention this weekend as well. Blame it on the hyphy movement, but the way he dressed had me initially dismiss him as another clown with a taste for bright colors and going dumb. That may be a part of him, but he brings more to the table.

First of all, dude loves to spit pause. I saw him in various ciphers and he was nice with it.

Secondly, instead of trying to catch Kanye after ‘Ye got done performing Saturday he stuck around to see Dead Prez. He was off to the side, but he was in rap fan mode as he went lyric for lyric with them throughout their set. The same applied to our Friday set where he came and stuck around just to watch others perform.

And lastly, Curren$y vouched for him when he recounted their studio session. Turns out that they had to do two songs, because the first one F.A.B. spoke on the Oscar Grant situation. To which Curren$y said: “I talk about weed and this dude was on some revolution shit. I gotta read the front page before I hop on that track.”

So on the first track I hear after my enlightenment is “This Real Life,” along with Trae, backed by speeding hi-hats and triumphant horns he two break down life in the hood. Not glorifying it or using it for street cred, but simply stating the facts.
